TWGC 43 (205lbs, D1): Tokyo Qualifier - Round 1 PBP Commentary |
This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the light heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of London, with a TWGC record of 13 wins and 8 losses; Kron Gracie! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Los Angeles, with a TWGC record of 9 wins and 2 losses; Elrey Dorado! The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Sosuke Kotani and Shigeki Fujiwara.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Gracie looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Dorado is fending him off so far but Gracie persists. Nope, Dorado circles away and we're back to standing. Dorado tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away. Dorado leaves Gracie with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Dorado drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Gracie defends it well. Gracie tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Dorado defends well and Gracie ends up having to push Dorado into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. And Dorado tries to counter it with a takedown but Gracie pushes his down on his head and steps out. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kron Gracie. That's going to take a lot out of him. Dorado has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Gracie regains guard immediately. Dorado stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gracie swivels though and keeps the full guard. Dorado engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Gracie has an active guard here but Dorado has managed to pass into half guard.

Gracie has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Dorado can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Gracie can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Dorado controls the pace. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Gracie is looking for a triangle here but Dorado uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
