PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Arthur King (ranked 882 p4p, 408 weight class) and Mick Marsden (ranked 110 p4p, 49 weight class). Marsden has chosen Brick - Ben Folds Five as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Mick Marsden has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mick Marsden!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A telegraphed right hand from King misses the target.
A nice leg kick lands there from Marsden.
Marsden scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Good exchange - Marsden coming out on top.
King fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Marsden displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from King.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
King bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Marsden's head backwards.

King has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Marsden is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

King shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Marsden pinned against the cage. Marsden gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

King closes the distance and clinches up with Marsden, looking for a takedown. King pushes Marsden against the cage but Marsden circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Marsden lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Marsden throws out a loose jab but King uses good head movement to avoid it.
King throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Marsden counters with a lovely straight right hand!

King shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Marsden defends it nicely.
A nice leg kick from Marsden, right into the meat of the thigh.

Marsden will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Mick Marsden is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
King avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
King shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
King looks to score with a jab to the body but Marsden is just out of range.
Marsden throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Marsden pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Marsden misses with an uppercut. King saw that one coming.

Marsden throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
King tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.

King bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Marsden defending well as King loads up on a big left hand.
Marsden thinks about the counter body kick.
King scores with a crisp jab that stopped Marsden in his tracks.
King thuds his right hand into Marsden's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
King steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Marsden.
Marsden cracks King with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.

King looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Marsden wants to get back to his feet.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

King wants to pass to mount but Marsden is defending the position.
King working over Marsden with some ground and pound. Marsden looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
King lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Marsden looks like he's trying to stand up.
Marsden is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. King connects with a nice short shot to Marsden's temple.
King wants to lay and pray for a moment but Marsden keeps working.

King slips a nice elbow through Marsden's hands, connecting with Marsden's forehead.

and Marsden counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Mick Marsden dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

King closes this distance looking for a takedown but Marsden circles away.
Mick Marsden seems to be getting the better of the standup.
King misses with a left hand
and Marsden counters with a head kick. That will keep King thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
Marsden takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.

The fighters circle momentarily. Marsden darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Oh King is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

enabling Marsden to counter with a crisp jab.
King is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Marsden walks into a straight right hand from King.
King pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Marsden feints a counter leg kick.
Marsden defending well as King loads up on a big left hand.
Marsden drops King with a huge uppercut! King drops to the floor like a sack of potatoes. Marsden is raining down punches and the ref stops the fight! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:53 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Mick Marsden!
A relieved looking Mick Marsden thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
