Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between John Taylor (ranked 4935 p4p, 3426 weight class) and BJ Penn (ranked 343 p4p, 268 weight class). Penn comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Hawaii '78 kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Taylor! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, BJ Penn! The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Steven Brown and Paul Tew.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Taylor uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Penn. Taylor swinging wildly here.
Penn closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Taylor's guard. Penn seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Let's hope that Penn has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. Taylor has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Penn can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Penn engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
That's one minute gone in the round. Penn wants to pass the guard but Taylor is keeping the position. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Taylor is on top in guard.
Taylor wants to control from the top but Penn keeps moving. Penn is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Penn keeping moving, preventing Taylor from controlling successfully. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Penn working for a triangle but Taylor defends it easily.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Penn keeping moving, preventing Taylor from controlling successfully. Taylor pushing down on Penn's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Penn tries to get to full guard but Taylor has control of the leg. Taylor is working for a submission of some sort.
Penn looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Penn kicks Taylor off and gets back to his feet. Penn scores with a jab. Taylor acknowledges it with a nod of the head. Penn feints and as Taylor raises his hands in defense, Penn changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Penn passes Taylor's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Penn seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Penn is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Penn in particular looking to stall. Taylor works his way to full guard. Good work. Penn looking to control the position here, rather than advance. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Penn stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Taylor swivels though and keeps the full guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Penn keeps trying to improve his position. Penn engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
BJ Penn dominated that round. That's time! Taylor's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Taylor fails with a takedown attempt. Penn checks a leg kick nicely. Taylor fails with a takedown attempt. Taylor tries to score a power double leg takedown but Penn sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Taylor somewhat. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Taylor. That's going to take a lot out of him. Taylor closes this distance looking for a takedown but Penn circles away. Taylor shoots for a double leg takedown but Penn sprawls well. He's pushed Taylor's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. A left lands for Penn. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Penn scores with a nice right hand.
Penn has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Taylor goes for a double leg but Penn avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Penn continues to drive forward. Penn has picked Taylor up - he's going for a ride! Penn dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard. Penn slips a nice elbow through Taylor's hands, connecting with Taylor's forehead. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Penn has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
That's one minute gone in the round. Penn controlling the pace for now. Penn looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet. Penn controlling his opponent. Taylor is looking to get to half guard. Penn is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Taylor can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
BJ Penn has got the better of the ground game so far. Penn raining down shots from the mount!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Penn is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Taylor can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Penn controlling from the full mount. Penn's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. Penn is dominating on the ground here - he's now on his opponent's back, looking to sink in the hooks. Taylor is in real trouble.
Penn has his arm under Taylor's chin here. Game over son! Penn squeezes tightly and Taylor is forced to tap out!
