The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Curls fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Scott sprawls well initially but Curls persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Scott (0) vs (2) Curls Scott keeping control of the position. Curls trying to control the action but Scott is working from the bottom. Scott is looking to control Curls's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Scott avoid being mounted? We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Scott won't allow Curls to pass to mount. Scott is looking to control Curls's leg but it's slowly edging free. We've been hearing good reports from Scott's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. Scott is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Scott is pulling down on Curls's head. It's preventing any offense from Curls, at least for the moment.
That's five minutes gone in the round. Curls is looking to advance position but Scott has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount! Scott takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Scott's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
That's seven minutes gone in the round. Scott seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Curls for as long as he can get away with. Curls is looking to get to half guard. Curls is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

That's ten minutes gone in the round. Scott controlling the pace for now. Curls is trying desperately to improve position. Curls tries to lock up and control but Scott gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Scott controlling from the full mount. Scott can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Curls is looking to escape. Scott content just to control the position here.
That's twelve minutes gone in the round. Curls is looking to get to half guard. Scott tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Curls tries to hold on but Scott postures up. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Scott trying to control but he's not successful this time. Curls wants to control but Scott is having none of it. Scott prevents Curls from getting the reversal.
That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Scott sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Curls is trying desperately to improve position. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Curls keeps trying to improve his position.
