And in the blue corner, fighting out of St Petersburg, with a TWGC record of 73 wins and 76 losses; Darragh Fiachna! The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Leandro Rodrigues and Daniel Cesar.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Fiachna tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Von Hayek defends well and Fiachna ends up having to push Von Hayek into the ropes where they will battle it out in the clinch. Fiachna darts in and clinches Von Hayek up against the ropes. Fiachna pulls guard. Von Hayek is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. We've been hearing good reports from Von Hayek's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. Von Hayek wants to control from the top but Fiachna keeps moving. Fiachna pulls Von Hayek in close to his closed guard and prevents Von Hayek from doing any damage or advancing position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Von Hayek pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Fiachna is keeping the position for now. Von Hayek might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
That's one minute gone in the round. Von Hayek slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Fiachna working a defensive guard here.
Fiachna wants to sweep here but Von Hayek controlling him for the moment. Fiachna is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Von Hayek (0) vs (2) Fiachna Von Hayek is refusing to be controlled, as Fiachna sits in half guard.

Fiachna takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Von Hayek wants to control but Fiachna is keeping busy and won't allow it. In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Fiachna working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though. Fiachna is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Von Hayek wants to improve his position but Fiachna is controlling well.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Von Hayek is looking to control Fiachna's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Von Hayek avoid being mounted? Fiachna in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Von Hayek tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Fiachna!
