The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way. Mesquita stuffs the takedown attempt from Scott. Scott gets slowly back to his feet. Mesquita drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Scott defends it well. Scott misses with a takedown attempt - Mesquita sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Scott tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Mesquita defends well and Scott ends up having to push Mesquita into the ropes where they will battle it out in the clinch. Mesquita sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though. Mesquita tries to roll over but Scott keeps him under control. Scott is looking to take a break and control but Mesquita is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Scott looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
