And in the blue corner, fighting out of Los Angeles, with a TWGC record of 81 wins and 58 losses; Jerry Curls! The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Seu Braga and Alexandre Firmino.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Shalit closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the ropes. Shalit decides to pull guard. Curls is stalling in the full guard. Curls tries to free his leg and advance position but Shalit is retaining full guard. Shalit controls Curls momentarily but Curls frees himself. Shalit looking for a guillotine here but Curls defends easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Curls won't allow Shalit to sweep him here.

We've been hearing good reports from Shalit's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. Curls wants to pass the guard but Shalit is keeping the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Shalit is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Curls is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. Curls trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Shalit tries to land a sweep but no joy. Shalit being controlled here, momentarily. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Curls wants to pass the guard but Shalit is keeping the position. Shalit pulls Curls in close to prevent any damage. Shalit wants to control but Curls passes easily into half guard.

That's six minutes gone in the round. Let's hope that Curls has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. Curls's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. Shalit is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Shalit wants to control but Curls is keeping busy and won't allow it.

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
That's eight minutes gone in the round. Curls is looking to advance position but Shalit won't allow it. Shalit is doing well to control the position and prevent Curls from advancing to side control.
That's nine minutes gone in the round. Curls stalling. Curls trying to mount his opponent but Shalit defends it. Shalit is controlling Curls's position as best he can from this difficult position. Shalit trying to control here but he's found himself mounted! Oh no!

Shalit just trying to survive but Curls is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish. What can Shalit do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!

Shalit wants to hold on but Curls pushes him away. Curls content just to control the position here. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! We're seeing a lot of stalling here from Curls.
