PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Paulo Silva (ranked 3826 p4p, 4054 weight class) and Randall Clark (ranked 458 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Paulo Silva!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Randall Clark!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Paulo Santos and Alexandre Firmino.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Silva uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Silva cracks Clark with a right hand to the side of the head.
Silva throws a head kick but Clark moves out of range.
Clark fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Clark closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Silva quickly recovers to half guard.
Clark is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Silva wants to get back to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Clark content to control rather than advance.
Clark missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Clark content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Silva blocking the ground and pound attempt from Clark.
Clark looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Clark fails with the takedown.
Clark shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Silva as he avoids it easily.
Paulo Silva has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Randall Clark.
A head kick from Silva lands but Clark takes it in his stride.
Silva misses with a combination
enabling Clark to counter with a crisp jab.
Clark throws a low kick but Silva moves out of range easily.
Clark fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Silva gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Clark is standing up over Silva. Silva looks to escape but Clark dives into side control.

Clark staying calm.
Silva is trying to buck Clark off.

Clark has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Clark shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Silva but Silva pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Silva looked to counter that last move with a leg kick but didn't pull the trigger.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Clark fails with a takedown attempt.
Silva with a nice cross.
Silva throws a sloppy head kick and Clark moves out of range easily.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Clark shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Silva defends it nicely.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Paulo Silva dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Clark closes the distance and pushes Silva back into the cage.

Clark's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Clark doesn't succeed with the takedown
enabling Silva to counter with a crisp jab.
Clark slips a jab and a cross from Silva.

Clark has Silva up against the cage in a clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Silva tries to throw a body punch but Clark avoids it by throwing Silva back against the cage.

Clark jumps into guard, dragging Silva to the mat.
Silva being controlled here momentarily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Clark looking for a guillotine here but Silva defends easily.
Silva has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Clark managing to control the position.
Silva knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Clark on the ground.
Silva wants to control from the top but Clark keeps moving.
Silva won't allow Clark to sweep him here.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Silva is looking to stand up but Clark won't let him.

Clark is looking for a triangle but Silva pushes his legs off easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Silva trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Silva tries to stand but Clark is controlling from the bottom.
Clark is pulling down on Silva's head. It's preventing any offense from Silva, at least for the moment.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Clark keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Clark has taken the fight to the clinch.
Clark pressing his opponent against the cage.
Clark has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Silva avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Clark ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Clark no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Clark can do anything to dispel that myth.
Clark manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Silva manages to get himself to full guard.


Clark drops back, looking for a kneebar! Silva looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Silva looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Silva!

Clark is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Silva's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Clark works his way to full guard. Good work.
Clark wants to hit a sweep here but Silva passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Clark there!
Clark tries to hold on but Silva postures up.
Clark is in a horrible position here. Silva smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Clark tries to hold on but Silva pushes him away.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Randall Clark will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Silva lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Clark with a lazy takedown attempt
and Silva counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Clark is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Clark fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Paulo Silva is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Clark shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Silva defends it nicely.
Paulo Silva has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Randall Clark.

Silva tries to counter by clinching up but Clark breaks away and moves out of range.
Clark misses with a looping left.
Silva went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Silva's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Silva duly obliges.

Clark gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Clark pulls guard effortlessly.
Clark is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Clark is trying to control. Silva wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Clark has his takedown stuffed
and Silva connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Clark tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Silva swivels and escapes.

A punch combination from Silva misses.
Silva throws a body punch but Clark moves out of range.
Clark shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Silva but Silva pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Silva seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Randall Clark seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Silva misses with a series of wild punches.
Clark steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Silva.
Clark throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Silva stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Silva wants it to stay on the feet.
Silva throws a sloppy head kick and Clark moves out of range easily.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Clark takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Silva lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Clark has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Clark and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Clark does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Clark fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Silva avoids it really well and circles away.
Silva appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Clark takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Clark tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Silva lands a lovely overhand right.

Clark shoots in and bounces Silva off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Silva not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Silva wants to stand and escape but Clark is having none of it.
Clark slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Clark throwing strikes from guard but Silva blocks nicely.

Clark postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Silva is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Clark, into his guard.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Clark is on top in guard.


And that's the end of the fight!
Paulo Silva showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Silva has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
