Let's get this grappling contest under way! Who will be victorious? Cowboy closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the ropes. Cowboy gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Shimada.
Shimada works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Shimada (2) vs (0) Cowboy Cowboy looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Shimada has picked Cowboy up and slammed him! Cowboy can't keep hold of the triangle and Shimada manages to pass to side control! Score +3 for passing guard: Shimada (5) vs (0) Cowboy Shimada tries for a kimura but Cowboy is defending well. Shimada is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Cowboy is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Shimada in side control, just content to control the action for now.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Shimada trying to control the action but Cowboy is working from the bottom. Cowboy is looking to reverse the position. You can see the frustration on Cowboy's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. The referee asks Shimada politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Shimada prefers to stall for the moment though. Shimada is looking to take a break and control but Cowboy is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cowboy tries to buck Shimada off but Shimada is having none of it. Cowboy wants to improve his position, back to half guard but Shimada has ideas of his own. He's got hold of Cowboy's far side arm and it looks like he's got an Americana. Ohh! Ohhhh! OOOOOOOOOH! A human being's arm is not meant to bend like that! Cowboy is tapping like a morse code operator on the Titanic! SOS SOS! He's out of here! Great win for Shimada!
