PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Nickolas Holt (ranked 3390 p4p, 3952 weight class) and Karter Carey (ranked 349 p4p, 388 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Nickolas Holt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Karter Carey!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Phil Schofield and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Carey gets a double leg takedown into Holt's guard.

Holt wants to stand up but Carey is controlling him.
Holt knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Carey on the ground.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Carey seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Holt does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Carey cracks Holt with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Carey prevents Holt from getting the reversal.

Carey wants to finish this one by submission but Holt is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Carey.

Carey prevents Holt from getting the reversal.
Carey breaks from Holt's wrist control and lands an elbow.

Carey is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Holt can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Holt tries to reverse the position but Carey maintains control.

Holt wants to get back to his feet.

Holt is desperately trying to improve his position but Carey has a good base and remains in mount.
Carey lands a heavy elbow.
Carey trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Carey has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Carey fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

and Holt cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Holt moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

It looks like Karter Carey has been cut.
Holt feints a jab promting Carey to slip. Holt then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Carey slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Holt uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Holt swings for the body but Carey moves out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Carey shoots in but no luck this time.
Carey tries for a takedown but Holt sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Nickolas Holt has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Karter Carey.
Holt connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Carey's hands.

and Holt counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Carey is breathing heavily.

Holt looks to land a combination. Carey sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Carey tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Holt counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

and Holt comes in over the top with a devastating right hand! Carey stumbles back against the cage, looking to regain his senses but Holt is on him like rabid pit bull! Carey slumps to the ground under a storm of punches and this fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:21 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Nickolas Holt!
Nickolas Holt decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
