This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the middleweight division. Introducing today's competitors. And in the blue corner, fighting out of London, with a TWGC record of 6 wins and 8 losses; Klaas Jan Tijhoff! The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Steve Smith and William Peck.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Tijhoff goes for a double leg but Halli avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Halli continues to drive forward. Tijhoff shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Halli as he avoids it easily. Klaas Jan Tijhoff seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Halli gets a clinch. Halli lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Tijhoff holds on and takes a little breather. Tijhoff manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Halli manages to get himself to full guard.

Tijhoff sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Halli's guard. Tijhoff is taking a breather. Halli says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Halli is looking to control Tijhoff's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Halli avoid being mounted?

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Halli is pressing down on Tijhoff's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Tijhoff wants to pass the guard but Halli is keeping the position. Halli has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

And that's the end of the fight! As we have tied on points and both fighters attempted the same number of subs, we will decide the bout based on the toss of a coin! Halli is heads and Tijhoff is tails. The coin is in the air and it lands... heads! Halli takes the fight on points by 3 to 2. Reijo Halli was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed. |
