PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Lightning McQueen (ranked 4054 p4p, 3260 weight class) and Gerry Watched (ranked 431 p4p, 375 weight class). Watched comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Wrecking Ball by Miley Cyrus kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 1, fighting out of London, Lightning McQueen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Gerry Watched!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Richard Clark and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Watched scores with a sloppy right hand. McQueen should have avoided that one.
Gerry Watched seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Watched takes a swing at McQueen's ribcage but misses.
Watched tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but McQueen was well out of range. Poor timing from Watched.
McQueen is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Watched.
Watched throws a body kick, spinning off balance
and Watched takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Watched throws a lazy right hand but McQueen sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Watched walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. McQueen checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
McQueen bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Watched's head backwards.
McQueen throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Watched takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Watched misses with a body punch
and McQueen counters with a series of strikes. Watched will be more careful next time no doubt.
Watched throws a poor cross that misses
and McQueen counters with a lovely shot to the body.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

McQueen lands a nice looking body shot.
Watched throws a combination that misses
and McQueen counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Watched throws a predictable looking body shot
enabling McQueen to counter with a crisp jab.
Watched looks to land a combination but McQueen avoids it well.
A little feinted left hand from McQueen on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.

McQueen scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
McQueen feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Watcheds jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

and McQueen cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

McQueen fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Watched on the side of the head.
Watched takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.

McQueen closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
McQueen is looking to break free of the clinch but Watched has double underhooks.
Watched is leaning against McQueen and scores with a nice uppercut to the body.

Watched's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

This has been an exciting period of action!

Oooh a lovely combination from Watched sends McQueen down but not out. Watched dives into side control looking to finish.

McQueen is rocked!

McQueen tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Watched wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
McQueen is not content to let Watched control the position.
McQueen tries to buck Watched off but Watched is having none of it.
McQueen can't do much from the bottom here.
McQueen is looking to reverse the position.
McQueen is trying to control Watched's posture but Watched avoids it.

McQueen is trying to get back to half guard.
You can see the frustration on McQueen's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
McQueen moves away from the strike by Watched.
McQueen swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Watched keeps McQueen at a distance using the push kick.
McQueen lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Watched throws a sloppy body shot
and McQueen connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
McQueen moves away from the strike by Watched.
A counter left hand to the body from McQueen misses its target.
McQueen lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Watched circles away quickly and effectively.
McQueen stalks Watched and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Watched's face. Watched staggers backwards, shaken.
A slapping body kick lands there for Watched.
McQueen is breathing heavily.
Watched tries a low kick but McQueen avoids it.
Watched is really struggling to land any decent head shots against his taller opponent.
Watched misses with a body kick.
Watched misses with a left hand
and McQueen counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Watched takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Watched takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Lightning McQueen dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


McQueen has closed the distance and engaged Watched in a clinch.
McQueen has had enough of the clinch but Watched keeps him there for the moment.

Watched pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
A bone on bone clash there as McQueen blocks the leg kick.
Watched keeps the fight on the outside.
Watched ducks down and throws a hook to the body but McQueen moves away.
Watched throws a looping overhand right but McQueen ducks down to avoid it.
Watched throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
McQueen walks forward, straight into a front kick from Watched.
McQueen wants to clinch.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Watched slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.

Watched pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
McQueen looks to land a combination but Watched avoids it well.
Watched shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Watched.
McQueen tried to counter with a leg kick but Watched avoided it.

Watched throws an uppercut from half a mile away. McQueen sees it coming and avoids it easily.

McQueen appeared to be looking to counter that last move with a leg kick.
McQueen walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.

Watched connects with a good right hand that stumbles McQueen. McQueen circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

Watched lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Watched closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
McQueen is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.

Gerry Watched showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

McQueen takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.

Watched has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

McQueen ducks straight into an uppercut from Watched and tumbles to the canvas! It’s a flash knockdown though - McQueen manages to regain guard straight away.
Oh McQueen is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
McQueen controls Watched momentarily but Watched frees himself.
McQueen is controlling Watched's posture.
McQueen seems to have got his legs back now.

Watched stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. McQueen swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Watched is still trying to improve position.
Watched trying to control but McQueen is working from the bottom.
McQueen working a defensive guard but Watched manages to pass into side control anyway.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Watched controlling the position from side mount.
McQueen can't do much from the bottom here.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
McQueen gets back to half guard.

McQueen is looking to improve his position.

With the fighters clinched against the cage, McQueen creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
McQueen's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
McQueen is trying to break the clinch but Watched has him pressed against the cage.
Watched misses with a short punch on the inside.
Watched tries to throw a body punch but McQueen avoids it by throwing Watched back against the cage.

McQueen is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

Watched is looking to control McQueen's arms but McQueen gets an underhook and turns him. Now Watched has his back to the cage.
Watched can't find room to land a body shot as McQueen controls the action.
Watched is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
