Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mark Beneke (ranked 1378 p4p, 910 weight class) and Boyd Crowder (ranked 184 p4p, 123 weight class). The key to victory for Mark Beneke has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 14 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mark Beneke!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Boyd Crowder!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Ren Mimura and Tatsuya Matsuyama.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Beneke keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Beneke lands a lovely overhand right.
Beneke is trying hard to land a takedown here. Crowder sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Crowder feints the counter takedown.
Crowder misses with a takedown attempt - Beneke sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
A little feinted left hand from Beneke on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Beneke fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Beneke jabs Crowder right on the nose. Crowder blinks but takes it well.
Crowder shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Beneke as he avoids it easily.

Crowder swings around for an armbar but Beneke sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Crowder's guard.

Beneke stands up and waves to Crowder to follow him.

Crowder closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Beneke to the mat! Beneke manages to get full guard.
Crowder stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Beneke swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Crowder drops back, looking for a kneebar! Beneke looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Beneke looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Beneke!

Crowder felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Beneke has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Beneke lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.

Crowder shoots in but no luck this time.
A chopping leg kick lands by Beneke.
Beneke scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Beneke scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Crowder throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Beneke's waist but Beneke gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Crowder off to one side.
Crowder shoots in for a double leg but Beneke sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
An inside leg kick lands from Beneke.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Crowder takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Beneke fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Crowder.
Beneke lands with an uppercut that bounces Crowder off the cage and back into range.
Crowder on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.

Beneke gets caught flat footed, as Crowder shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Beneke has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Crowder is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.

Crowder has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Beneke is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Beneke escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Crowder shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Beneke pinned against the cage. Beneke gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Crowder moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.

Crowder closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Crowder tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Crowder goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Beneke rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Crowder's guard! Nice work there by Beneke!
Beneke is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Beneke's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Beneke got a little sloppy there for a moment and Crowder has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Beneke has managed to get both his arms back between Crowder's legs - danger averted.

Crowder escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Beneke gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Beneke wants to stand but Crowder has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Crowder takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Crowder is defended easily by Beneke.

Beneke rushes Crowder and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Crowder shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Beneke as he jumps to the side.
Crowder fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Beneke avoids it really well and circles away.
Beneke lands a jab to the nose.
Beneke is looking to clinch but Crowder is avoiding it.
Beneke displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Crowder.

Crowder drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Beneke dives on top into guard.

Beneke has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Crowder is proving hard to escape from.

Beneke comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Crowder crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Beneke - the referee stops the clock and Crowder gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Beneke. Crowder manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Beneke throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Nice uppercut lands for Beneke. That snapped Crowder's head back.
Beneke scores with the left hand. Crowder knows he should have avoided that one.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Boyd Crowder is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Crowder darts in looking for a takedown but Beneke gets double underhooks and turns Crowder into the cage.

Horrible takedown attempt by Crowder or perhaps it was just good defense by Beneke, which made it look bad.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Beneke, as that shot connected.

Beneke bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.

Crowder has a pretty nasty looking mouse under his right eye.
Beneke lands with a hook. Crowder tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Crowder shoots in but no luck this time.

I was talking to Beneke's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

Beneke's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Crowder is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Beneke defends well.

Crowder has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Beneke can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Crowder isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Beneke stacks Crowder on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Beneke!

Mark Beneke decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
