PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Wuzhang Li (ranked 3861 p4p, 3860 weight class) and DJ Shaw (ranked 0 p4p, 380 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Wuzhang Li!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, DJ Shaw!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Chris Downing and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Li avoids a punch combination nicely.
Shaw shoots in looking for a takedown but Li manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Shaw's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Shaw closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Li did well to prevent Shaw getting side control.
Li wants to get back to full guard.
Li knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Shaw on the ground.
Li is looking to control Shaw's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Li avoid being mounted?
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Li takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

Shaw decides to stand up, so the ref orders Li to his feet.
Li moves in looking to clinch but Shaw pushes him off.
Shaw circles away from the clinch attempt.
Wuzhang Li is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Shaw tries for a takedown but Li sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Shaw shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Li but Li pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Wuzhang Li has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of DJ Shaw.
Shaw misses with a takedown attempt - Li sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Li is looking to counter the offense by Shaw and move into the clinch.
DJ Shaw seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Shaw has Li pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Shaw pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Li tumbling to the mat - Shaw dives into Li's guard.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

The fight stays on the outside here - Li looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Shaw darts in looking for a takedown but Li gets double underhooks and turns Shaw into the cage.

That was a close second round but I would say that Wuzhang Li will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Shaw lands a nice short elbow.

Shaw has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Li uses from the top position.

Shaw is looking for a triangle but Li pushes his legs off easily.
Shaw is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Shaw moves into full mount! Li won't be happy about that!

Let's hope that Shaw has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Shaw cracks Li with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Shaw fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Li just trying to survive but Shaw is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
Shaw has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Shaw is looking for the choke from the back position but Li is controlling his hands well.
Shaw is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Shaw gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Shaw gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Shaw apologises and we restart here on the feet.

Shaw ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Shaw no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Shaw is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Li wants to control from the top but Shaw keeps moving.

DJ Shaw comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Shaw has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

DJ Shaw tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
