And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 5 wins and 1 losses; Edward Krause! The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Shirou Masuda and Tatsuya Matsuyama.
The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way. Spagnolo gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Krause has hold of one of Spagnolo's legs. Spagnolo is fighting the takedown attempt but Krause gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard. Let's hope that Krause has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. Spagnolo wants to control from the top but Krause keeps moving. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Krause holds on and takes a little breather. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Krause got a little sloppy there for a moment and Spagnolo has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Krause has managed to get both his arms back between Spagnolo's legs - danger averted. Krause trying to control the position from guard on top but Spagnolo is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Krause passes into half guard. Well, if Krause is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
That's six minutes gone in the round. Spagnolo slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Spagnolo escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Krause gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Krause looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
That's seven minutes gone in the round. Krause preventing the sweep. Krause works a leg free and moves into half guard. Spagnolo is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Krause's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Krause's back! Score +4 for clean sweep to past guard: Spagnolo (6) vs (4) Krause A bit of a pause in the action here. Spagnolo controlling the positon.

That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Krause staying busy and making it hard for Spagnolo to control. Spagnolo has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Krause's body.

Krause is defending well though. Spagnolo let's go of the attempt for now. Krause trying to control but not successfully.
