In the red corner, competing out of Los Angeles, with a TWGC record of 2 wins and 2 losses; Tommy Gavin! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Montreal, with a TWGC record of 15 wins and 16 losses; Toyotomi Ieyasu!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Yukihiro Shimada.


The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way.

Gavin clinches up with Ieyasu and pushes him back against the ropes.

Gavin successfully pulls guard.
Ieyasu looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Ieyasu is fighting to break Gavin's control of his arms but Gavin is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Gavin keeping moving, preventing Ieyasu from controlling successfully.
Gavin looking to control.
Ieyasu sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Gavin's guard.
Gavin is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ieyasu is trying to control the action in half guard but Gavin is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Gavin is trying to maintain the position but Ieyasu is very close to passing his half guard.

Ieyasu is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Ieyasu is looking for a kimura here.
Gavin is concentrating on defense, preventing Ieyasu from advancing position.

Ieyasu is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Gavin actively working from the bottom here.
Gavin wants to get back to full guard.

Ieyasu seems to be looking for submissions.
Gavin wants to improve his position but Ieyasu is controlling well.
Ieyasu passes to full mount!

Gavin is working to get back to half guard.
Gavin tries to control Ieyasu's body but Ieyasu pushes him off. Gavin squirms to his side and now Ieyasu has his back!

Ieyasu has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.

Ieyasu looking to break Gavin's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Gavin remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Ieyasu will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

Gavin is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.

Will Ieyasu go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?
Gavin rolls, trying to escape but Ieyasu keeps control of the position.
Gavin is working hard here to advance position.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Gavin trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.

Ieyasu is working for a rear naked choke. Gavin is not defending it well and Ieyasu has tightened it up quickly! This could be all over! Gavin refuses to tap and goes to sleep, forcing the referee to intervene. A little trickle of blood came out of Gavin's nose as his head slumped to the floor. That is naaaasty!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Toyotomi Ieyasu!
