Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Eli Richards (ranked 2835 p4p, 3502 weight class) and Felix Kat (ranked 236 p4p, 274 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Kat's choice of entrance music: Twisted Tales of Felix The Cat. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Eli Richards! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Felix Kat! The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Cecil Peabody and Gwen Towbar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kat pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Kat swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Richards counters with a stiff right hand. Kat keeps the fight on the outside. Kat throws a right and a left that Richards avoids nicely. A little feinted left hand from Richards on the counter but he doesn't commit to it. Kat throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Richards tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Kat is in Richards's guard. Kat looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Kat trying to control but Richards is working from the bottom. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Richards has momentary wrist control but Kat slips an elbow through the middle. Richards knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Kat on the ground. Kat trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kat working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Kat has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Kat missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Kat trying to control but Richards is working from the bottom. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Kat drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Kat jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Richards keeping moving, preventing Kat from controlling successfully. Richards is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Kat is controlling him.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. Richards closes the distance and pushes Kat back into the cage. Richards lands with a good tight uppercut to the head. Richards throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Kats head. Richards throws a punch but it's blocked by Kat. Richards lands on the inside with an uppercut. The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch. A head punch on the inside from Richards fails to land. Kat has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Richards after a bit of a struggle. Kat misses with a body punch.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Richards lands a hook to the side of the head. Richards working some nice short punches in the clinch. Kat jumps guard and drags Richards to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. Richards wanted to stand there but Kat had control of the position. Kat working for a triangle but Richards defends it easily.
Kat is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Kat can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Richards controls the pace.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Kat not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Kat might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Richards haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. Kat is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Kat has his hands on Richards's head, controlling the position. Richards stays in close to Kat's body and controls the position. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Richards postures up.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Eli Richards will probably get the nod. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!
Richards clinches up against the cage. Kat wants to break the clinch but can't.
Richards lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Kat backwards. Kat is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath. Kat blocks an elbow strike from Richards.
Richards softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage. Kat pressing his opponent against the cage. Richards blocks an uppercut.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Richards scores with a shoulder strike. Good body shot from Richards.
Kat misses with an elbow over the top. A quick uppercut on the inside from Richards. Richards lands a left hand that snaps the head of Kat backwards.
That's one minute gone in the round. Richards scores with a nice hook to the head. A shot in the inside from Richards. Richards lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage. A short right from Richards on the inside. A frustrated look appears on Kat's face as he tries to break the clinch. Richards makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut. Richards scores with a nice hook to the head. Richards pushes Kat back against the cage and unloads with a body punch. Kat ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Kat no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. Kat working for a triangle but Richards defends it easily.
Richards avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Richards tries to stand but Kat is controlling from the bottom. Kat is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Kat lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.
We've been informed that Kat has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Kat scoring with some ground and pound. Richards is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Kat can do to turn this around? Kat slips nicely into half guard. Kat moves into full mount! Richards won't be happy about that! Richards on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Richards tries to get out of the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kat lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Kat trying to control but Richards is having none of it. Richards can't escape the position.
Kat throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Richards has worked his way to half guard, taking advantage of Kat's lack of action.
Richards tries to roll over but Kat keeps him under control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Richards is trying to stand.
Kat wants to lay and pray for a moment but Richards keeps working. Kat seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Richards tries to get to full guard but Kat has control of the leg. Kat wants to take a breather but Richards is having none of it. Kat lands with a punch from half guard. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that Eli Richards will probably get the nod. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round! Richards tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Kat manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Richards has closed the distance and engaged Kat in a clinch.
A nice left hand lands by Richards.
Richards takes a shot to the head.
Richards is rocked! Kat is trying to drag Richards to the mat but Richards just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. Oh Richards is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Kat stalling in the clinch.
Richards misses with a hook from the clinch. Kat tries to break the clinch but Richards is controlling the position. Kat tries to score a body lock takedown but Richards shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Kat blocking some punches.
Kat is trying to force a seperation but Richards has the dominant position. Richards working aggressively here.
Kat pulls guard successfully.
Richards is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Kat has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Richards is looking to defend but Kat has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Richards! Kat pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Richards taps out and this one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:49 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Felix Kat!
