Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Stephen Dyer (ranked 1889 p4p, 2243 weight class) and Henry Shorts (ranked 228 p4p, 270 weight class). This should be fireworks!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 6 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Stephen Dyer! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 7 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Henry Shorts! The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, James Atkins and Paul Tew.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Dyer. Dyer swings for the body but Shorts moves out of range.
Dyer throws a body punch but Shorts moves out of range. Shorts drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Dyer defends it well. Dyer throws a jab but it's blocked by Shorts. Dyer lands a nice looking body shot.
Stephen Dyer seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Shorts avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Shorts shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Dyer as he avoids it easily. Dyer connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt. Shorts fails with the takedown and Dyer counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Shorts shoots in and gets a takedown into Dyer's guard. Dyer tries to land a sweep but no joy. Dyer has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. Dyer working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Shorts.
That's one minute gone in the round. Shorts is looking to advance position but Dyer has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount! Shorts is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Shorts wants to control but Dyer is having none of it. Shorts is looking to improve his position but Dyer isn't that keen on the idea. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Shorts holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Dyer tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Shorts is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Dyer thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage. Dyer looking to control but Shorts is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Dyer looking to finish with strikes here!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Shorts is looking to improve his position but Dyer isn't that keen on the idea. Dyer thowing shots but they're missing. Shorts is trying desperately to improve position. Dyer tries to control but Shorts wriggling away. Shorts sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though. Shorts moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Dyer trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Shorts is adopting a defensive guard. Dyer throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Shorts works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Shorts is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Shorts throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Shorts looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Dyer on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Shorts working over Dyer with some ground and pound. Dyer looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. Dyer is staying active underneath Shorts, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Shorts drops an elbow to the side of Dyer's head. Shorts slips a nice elbow through Dyer's hands, connecting with Dyer's forehead. Dyer is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Shorts scores with a couple of nice shots. Shorts working Dyer over with strikes. Shorts throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Dyer is trying to stand up here but Shorts is controlling him well. Shorts with the ground and pound but Dyer uses the opportunity to regain guard. Dyer working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Shorts. In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Shorts working his ground and pound in the gym. Shorts trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Shorts content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Stephen Dyer will probably get the nod. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Shorts shoots in for a takedown but Dyer shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Shorts closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Dyer quickly recovers to half guard. Shorts is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Dyer is trying to stand.
Shorts is stalling here. Dyer is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Shorts seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Dyer has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work. Shorts defending against the ground and pound. Shorts regains half guard. Shorts tries to get to full guard but Dyer has control of the leg. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Dyer thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Shorts regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Dyer. Shorts trying to control the position.

Dyer throwing strikes from guard but Shorts blocks nicely. Shorts looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Dyer chips away with some ground and pound. Shorts is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Shorts is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Dyer wants to control from the top but Shorts keeps moving. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. Dyer sitting in guard here, content to control.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Shorts tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Dyer defends well and Shorts ends up having to push Dyer into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Dyer ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Shorts moves away. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Shorts. Stephen Dyer has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Henry Shorts. Shorts walks into a jab. Stephen Dyer is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Shorts throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Dyer was covering up waiting for the punch and Shorts finishes the takedown easily into guard. Shorts trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Dyer working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Shorts. Dyer keeping moving, preventing Shorts from controlling successfully. Shorts scoring with some ground and pound. Dyer wants to stand but Shorts is controlling the position. Shorts looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Shorts works a leg free and moves into half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Dyer keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Shorts looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Dyer with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Dyer is looking to improve his position.
Shorts not landing any meaningful shots this time. Shorts is looking to take a break and control but Dyer is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Dyer wants to get back to his feet.
Shorts wants to take a breather but Dyer is having none of it. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Dyer is trying to stand up here but Shorts is controlling him well. Shorts throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
A close second round but Henry Shorts will probably get the nod - 10:9. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards. Dyer changes levels and scores with a jab to the body. Shorts avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Dyer closes the distance and clinches. Nice body punch from Dyer - that landed with a thud.
Dyer lands a left hand.
Dyer lands with a right to the head. Shorts can't get the takedown.
Dyer scores with an uppercut up the middle. Dyer scores with a nice hook to the head. Dyer lands a body punch in the clinch. Dyer lands with a short head shot on the inside. Shorts has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Dyer is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. I was talking to Dyer's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight. An uppercut to the body lands inside from Dyer. Dyer presses Shorts against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot. Shorts takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Dyer lands a body shot. Dyer lands a body shot. Dyer has Shorts pushed against the cage. Dyer breaks from the clinch.
That's one minute gone in the round. Dyer cracks a nice hook into Shorts's ribs. Dyer getting the better of the striking in that exchange. Shorts misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Stephen Dyer has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Henry Shorts. Dyer lands a body shot.
Dyer is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Shorts can do to turn this around? Dyer connects with a body shot that sends Shorts's belly button to the back. Shorts shoots in but Dyer avoids the takedown attempt easily. Dyer tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Shorts was well out of range. Poor timing from Dyer. Dyer ducks down and throws a hook to the body. Dyer lands with a good body shot. Dyer lands with a nice body punch.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Dyer lands with a straight right. Shorts didn't see that one coming.
Shorts is rocked! Shorts with a poor takedown and Dyer counters with a huge left! Shorts is in big trouble! He's backing up but Dyer isn't giving him chance to recover. Under a barage of punches the ref has to step in to save Shorts from any more damage. A dominating finish by Dyer!
