Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jaka Prawira (ranked 3595 p4p, 4197 weight class) and James Smith (ranked 278 p4p, 304 weight class). James Smith is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jaka Prawira!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, James Smith!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, George Francis and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Smith drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Smith wants to get up but he can't break Prawira's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Smith trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Smith won't allow Prawira to sweep him here.
Smith wants to stand but Prawira is controlling his posture from full guard.

Prawira has an active guard here but Smith has managed to pass into half guard.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Smith working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Smith connects with a nice short shot to Prawira's temple.

Prawira's coaches at Vancouver Island Fight Club have been working on his defensive grappling in preparation for this fight so let's see if he can get out of this tricky position.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Smith slips a nice elbow through Prawira's hands, connecting with Prawira's forehead.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Smith shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Prawira's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Smith is looking for a kimura but Prawira is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Smith to get the leverage.

Smith is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Prawira sees it coming and defends easily.

Smith perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Smith takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Prawira is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Smith pulls his head out easily.

Prawira makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Prawira.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Smith shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

James Smith comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Smith has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
