This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the lightweight division. Introducing today's competitors. And in the blue corner, fighting out of Sydney, with a TWGC record of 2 wins and 5 losses; Maurice Lemaire! The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Sosuke Kotani and Taro Takaoka.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Leighton darts in looking for a takedown but Lemaire gets double underhooks and turns Leighton into the ropes. Lemaire tries to pull guard but Leighton won't allow it.
Lemaire jumps guard and drags Leighton to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. Leighton trying to control the position from guard on top but Lemaire is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Leighton is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Leighton trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Leighton slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. Leighton stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Lemaire swivels though and keeps the full guard. Lemaire can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Leighton controls the pace. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Lemaire can do anything to dispel that myth. Leighton is pushing down on Lemaire's leg trying to pass to half guard. Lemaire is fighting to maintain full guard but Leighton has managed to sneak the leg through.
That's six minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Leighton in particular looking to stall. Lemaire won't allow Leighton to pass to mount. Lemaire is looking to control Leighton's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Lemaire avoid being mounted? Leighton is controlling the pace.

That's ten minutes gone in the round. Leighton tries to get the hooks in deep but Lemaire pushed the leg off. Leighton controls the action. Leighton has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Leighton seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Lemaire for as long as he can get away with. Lemaire tries to break free.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Lemaire tries to escape the position.
That's twelve minutes gone in the round. Leighton slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.
