Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Melvin Diaz (ranked 3875 p4p, 25222 weight class) and Clayton Bigsby (ranked 284 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Melvin Diaz! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 0 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Clayton Bigsby! The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Don Winkell and Jack Bonds.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Bigsby tries to score a power double leg takedown but Diaz sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Bigsby somewhat. Bigsby looks for a takedown but Diaz sprawls well. Bigsby lands with a kick to the temple. Diaz shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
It looks like Melvin Diaz has been cut. Diaz has a takedown stuffed. Bigsby is looking for the big counter here. Bigsby gets tackled into the cage by Diaz. Diaz maintains the clinch. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Diaz tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Diaz is trying to break free. Bigsby looking for a takedown. Diaz wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Bigsby has him pressed against the cage. Bigsby has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Diaz is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Diaz jumps guard and drags Bigsby to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Diaz is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Bigsby is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Diaz is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. Diaz bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Bigsby's guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Bigsby can do anything to dispel that myth. Bigsby working for a triangle but Diaz defends it easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Diaz sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Bigsby's guard. Bigsby has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Diaz is working away from the top position though. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Bigsby wants to sweep but Diaz has passed to side control! Bigsby avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Diaz. Bigsby felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it. Bigsby struggling a bit here. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Diaz decides to take the fight back to the feet. Diaz with a poor takedown and Bigsby counters with a stiff right hand. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Diaz escapes and gets back to his feet. Bigsby goes for a double leg but Diaz avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Diaz continues to drive forward. Bigsby misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Diaz closes the distance and clinches. Diaz has had enough of the clinch but Bigsby keeps him there for the moment. Diaz is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage. Diaz wants to stall.

Diaz is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Bigsby. Bigsby tries to control but Diaz manages to take his back. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Bigsby tries for a takedown but Diaz sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Clayton Bigsby has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Bigsby fails with the takedown and Diaz counters with a series of strikes. Bigsby will be more careful next time no doubt. Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Bigsby. Diaz shrugs it off though. Diaz misses with a takedown attempt - Bigsby sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Diaz slaps away a takedown attempt from Bigsby, before circling back to the center of the mat. Melvin Diaz has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. Bigsby fails with a takedown attempt. It looked like Diaz was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit. Diaz shoots in but Bigsby avoids the takedown attempt easily. Bigsby steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Diaz.

No joy for Diaz on that attempt. Bigsby displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Diaz. Bigsby has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. Diaz sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Diaz darts in looking for a takedown but Bigsby gets double underhooks and turns Diaz into the cage. Bigsby tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away. Melvin Diaz is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Bigsby tries a body shot but Diaz blocks it.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Melvin Diaz. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Diaz, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent.
