The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Mondragon fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Nice sprawl there from Diesel as Mondragon shoots in. Mondragon fails to land the takedown. Kurt Diesel has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Esteban Mondragon. Mondragon drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Mondragon stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Diesel swivels though and keeps the full guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Diesel is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. That's three minutes gone in the round. Mondragon is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Diesel's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Diesel's back! Diesel rolled but Mondragon kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.
Let's hope that Mondragon has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
