Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Silas Hodge (ranked 2360 p4p, 2738 weight class) and Monty Kingston (ranked 276 p4p, 327 weight class). Monty Kingston has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Silas Hodge's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Silas Hodge!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Monty Kingston!
The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Ryoma Takatsuka and Josh West.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kingston wants to clinch.
Kingston misses with a lunging right hand
and Hodge connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Kingston throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Hodge.

Kingston closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Hodge did well to prevent Kingston getting side control.
Kingston thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Hodge looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Hodge is trying to maintain the position but Kingston is very close to passing his half guard.
Hodge is pressing down on Kingston's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kingston trying to control the position from guard on top but Hodge is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Kingston is in close to Hodge's body, working some short punches and elbows.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Kingston working his ground and pound in the gym.

Hodge had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Kingston defends it easily.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Hodge is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Kingston is aware though and is defending well.
Kingston with a nice head shot there.

Hodge escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Kingston gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Hodge looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Hodge keeping moving, preventing Kingston from controlling successfully.
Hodge trying to keep a closed guard but Kingston is proving a slippery customer.

Kingston postures up and lands a big shot to Hodge's brow.

Hodge has his foot on Kingston's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Kingston works his way back into a safe position though.
Kingston passes into half guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
The fighters are battling for position here. Hodge manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Kingston makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Kingston postures up.

Kingston got a little sloppy there for a moment and Hodge has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Kingston has managed to get both his arms back between Hodge's legs - danger averted.
Kingston's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Kingston stands up over Hodge, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Kingston avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Hodge escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Kingston gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Hodge has an active guard here but Kingston has managed to pass into half guard.
Hodge regains full guard. Nicely done.
Kingston distracts Hodge with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Hodge working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Kingston doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Kingston manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kingston avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Kingston keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Hodge's head.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hodge manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Kingston manages to get himself to full guard.


Hodge drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Hodge jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Hodge postures up.
Kingston really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hodge. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Hodge throws an elbow that misses. Kingston uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Hodge's guard. Nice move by Kingston!

Hodge working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Kingston doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Kingston manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Silas Hodge dominated that round.
That's time! Hodge's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Kingston looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Hodge drops down looking for a counter takedown but Kingston sprawls and moves away.
Kingston tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Hodge manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Kingston shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Hodge manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Kingston wants to control from the top but Hodge keeps moving.
Kingston trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Kingston is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Hodge is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Kingston frees his head nicely. Oh but Hodge has switched to an armbar! Kingston is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
