PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Matt Bond (ranked 2295 p4p, 2820 weight class) and Reese Madden (ranked 209 p4p, 255 weight class). Madden comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Shut Up kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Matt Bond has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Matt Bond!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Reese Madden!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Jorge Garcia and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Madden has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Bond.
Bond throws a sloppy head kick and Madden moves out of range easily.
Nice sprawl there from Bond as Madden shoots in.

Madden scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Madden looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Bond is defending against the submission attempts here by Madden.
Madden is taking a breather. Bond says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Bond actively working from the bottom here.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bond desperately trying to maintain half guard.

Madden tries to pass to full mount but Bond defends it.
Bond is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Madden content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
It looks like Madden might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Madden is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Bond!

Madden takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Bond looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Bond tries to lock up and control but Madden gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Bond is squirming around, avoiding Madden's attempts to control the action.
Bond sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Madden is looking to take a break and control but Bond is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Madden wants to pass to mount but Bond is defending the position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Madden uses his free foot to push down on Bond's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Bond.
Bond is squirming around, avoiding Madden's attempts to control the action.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Reese Madden dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Bond throws a head kick that half lands.
Madden checks a low kick from Bond.

Madden shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Bond's guard.
Bond keeping moving, preventing Madden from controlling successfully.
Madden sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Bond's guard.
Bond is staying active underneath Madden, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Bond is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Madden pulls his head out easily.
Madden has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Bond looking for submissions off his back.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Bond is defending against the submission attempts here by Madden.
Bond is looking for a sweep. Madden is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Madden wants to work for an arm triangle but Bond is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Madden wants to take a breather but Bond is having none of it.

Madden is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Bond sees it coming and defends easily.

Madden is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Bond is just riding it out for now. Madden eventually gives up the hold.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Bond has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Madden doesn't defend quickly enough and Bond has managed to lock this one up! Can Madden escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Bond on a fantastic submission victory.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:41 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Matt Bond!
