Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Viktor Hughes (ranked 23655 p4p, 24000 weight class) and Bo Brands (ranked 500 p4p, 477 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Viktor Hughes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Bo Brands!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Ben Hemmingworth and Ben Watson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hughes drives through and clinches with Brands against the cage.
Hughes lands a nice elbow from the clinch.
Brands is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Hughes pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Hughes has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Brands avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Brands is trying to drag Hughes to the mat but Hughes just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Brands wants to break the clinch but can't.
Hughes tries to score a body lock takedown but Brands shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Hughes is working for takedown but Brands is calmly controlling the position for now.

I was talking to Hughes's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Brands tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Hughes is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Brands is defending well.
Hughes goes for a takedown in the clinch but Brands prevents it.
Brands jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Hughes walks away with a smile on his face. Brands gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Brands fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Brands is trying to pull guard but Hughes turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Hughes creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Brands's defenses.

Hughes drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Hughes jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hughes avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Brands is pulling down on Hughes's head. It's preventing any offense from Hughes, at least for the moment.
Hughes wants to control from the top but Brands keeps moving.
Brands wants to stand and escape but Hughes is having none of it.

Brands is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Brands working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Hughes doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Hughes manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Hughes got a little sloppy there for a moment and Brands has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Hughes has managed to get both his arms back between Brands's legs - danger averted.
Brands lands a decent shot there.

Brands looking for a guillotine here but Hughes defends easily.
Hughes has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Brands is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Hughes defends well.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Brands shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Hughes as he jumps to the side.

Brands manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Brands is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Hughes is aware though and is defending well.

We've been informed that Brands has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hughes is posturing up here but Brands has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Hughes tries to roll out but it's too tight and Hughes has to tap! Slick submission there by Brands!
