And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, BJ Penn!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Andrew Berry and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A leg kick checked by Ferrell.
Ferrell shoots in looking for a takedown but Penn manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Ferrell's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Penn throws a hook but Ferrell blocks it.
Penn lands with a nice body punch.

Ferrell pushes Penn up against the cage in a clinch.
A frustrated look appears on Penn's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Ferrell successfully pulls guard.
Penn throws a big right hand that misses.
Ferrell can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Penn controls the pace.
Ferrell working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Penn.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Ferrell escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Penn gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Penn advances to half guard.
Penn is trying to control the action in half guard but Ferrell is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Penn thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Ferrell's head.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Penn throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Ferrell works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Penn stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ferrell swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Penn has gone for a leg lock! Ferrell slips out almost immediately though and dives into Penn's guard.

Penn has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Ferrell drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Penn manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Ferrell has Penn in his guard.


Ferrell working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Penn doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Penn manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Ferrell has his foot on Penn's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Penn works his way back into a safe position though.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Penn is pushing down on Ferrell's leg trying to pass to half guard. Ferrell is fighting to maintain full guard but Penn has managed to sneak the leg through.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Penn is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Ferrell doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Penn.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Penn maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Ferrell could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Penn has cracked it and Ferrell is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Penn!
