PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between The Wilson (ranked 1756 p4p, 2699 weight class) and Juan David Franco (ranked 220 p4p, 319 weight class). Wilson comes to the cage accompanied by Painkiller. Franco has chosen Bullet For My Valentine- Tears Don't Fall as his entrance music. The Wilson could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Juan David Franco's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 21 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, The Wilson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 25 - 23 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Juan David Franco!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Robert Douchet and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wilson ducks under a wild hook from Franco.

Wilson shoots in and gets a takedown into Franco's guard.
Wilson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Franco swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Wilson postures up and lands a big shot to Franco's brow.
Wilson is looking to work some ground and pound but Franco has wrist control.
Wilson postures up in Franco's guard and throws a big left but Franco blocks it.

Franco keeping moving, preventing Wilson from controlling successfully.
We've been hearing that Wilson has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Wilson looking to sit in guard and control but Franco gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Wilson shoots in looking for a takedown but Franco manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Wilson's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Franco unleashes a big counter combination but Wilson bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.

Franco lands a left and a right that send Wilson crashing to the mat, dazed. Franco thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

Wilson is rocked!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Franco throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Oh Wilson is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Wilson fails with a takedown attempt.
Wilson seems to have got his legs back now.
Wilson dives in for a single leg takedown but Franco sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Franco breaks from the clinch.
Franco looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Franco misses with a hook.
Franco misses with an attempted mid kick.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Franco throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Franco misses with an uppercut
and Wilson counters with an outside leg kick.

Wilson closes the distance and clinches.
Wilson is working for takedown but Franco is calmly controlling the position for now.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Franco gets caught napping as Wilson dives in and scores a takedown. Franco manages to retain guard.
Wilson not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Franco is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Wilson is controlling him.
Wilson has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Franco really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Wilson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Wilson throws a strike but Franco rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Wilson wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Wilson holds on and takes a little breather.

Franco must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Franco's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Wilson lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Franco down.

Wilson prevents Franco from escaping the position.
Franco takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Wilson tries to score with some ground and pound. Franco controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Wilson is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Franco will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Franco is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Franco is still in real trouble! Can Wilson finish him?
Wilson scores with a big shot from side control... and another... and another! Oh Franco is done here - save him referee! More strikes land and eventually the ref does step in and Wilson can finally stop beating on his defenseless opponent!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:43 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). The Wilson!
An out of breath The Wilson thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
