And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 4 wins and 8 losses; Rimtas Kentas! The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Columbo Gatti and Reed Andrews.
Let's get this grappling contest under way! Who will be victorious? Kentas tries to close the distance and clinch but Ngannou swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. We've been hearing reports that Ngannou has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight. Ngannou closes the distance and clinches up with Kentas, looking for a takedown. Ngannou pushes Kentas against the cage but Kentas circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Kentas shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Ngannou pinned against the cage. Ngannou gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Ngannou swats away the attempt to clinch by Kentas. Kentas closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Ngannou to the mat! Ngannou manages to get full guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Ngannou (0) vs (2) Kentas Kentas trying to control the position from guard on top but Ngannou is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Kentas is looking to advance position but Ngannou has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount! That's one minute gone in the round. Kentas tries to hold on but Ngannou postures up. Kentas is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Kentas tries to lock up and control but Ngannou gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Kentas bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done! Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Ngannou (4) vs (4) Kentas Ngannou keeping full guard, as Kentas tries to pass. Kentas trying to control but Ngannou is working from the bottom. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kentas pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Ngannou is keeping the position for now. Kentas wants to control from the top but Ngannou keeps moving. Ngannou is pulling down on Kentas's head. It's preventing any offense from Kentas, at least for the moment. Kentas trying to control the position from guard on top but Ngannou is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Kentas sitting in guard doing not very much at all here. Ngannou doesn't need a second invitation though! He's locked up a guillotine and he's squeezing tight! That is tiiiiiiiiight! Kentas paying the price for stalling here - he's pushing hard on the arm trying to free himself but it's no use! He's tapped! WOW, quick submission from Ngannou - great work!
