And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 5 wins and 5 losses; Elim Garak! The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Eddie Farnsworth and Lou da Vinci.
The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Green closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Garak did well to prevent Green getting side control. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Green (2) vs (0) Garak Green is controlling the pace.
Green is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Garak! Score +3 for passing guard: Green (5) vs (0) Garak Garak is looking to improve his position but Green isn't that keen on the idea. Green looking to control and managing it successfully. Garak slips a leg in and gets back to half guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Green with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Green seems to be working for a kimura but Garak defends the submission attempt. Green is figuring out what he wants to do next. Garak wants to get back to full guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Green trying to control the action but Garak is working from the bottom. Garak makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Garak. Green looking to control the position here, rather than advance. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Garak holds on and takes a little breather.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Garak has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Green can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Garak is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Garak is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Green is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Garak working for a triangle but Green defends it easily.
Green not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
That's five minutes gone in the round. Green trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Green wants to control from the top but Garak keeps moving. Garak trying to keep a closed guard but Green is proving a slippery customer.
Green controlling from the top position. Green has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Garak looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's six minutes gone in the round. Garak has his hands on Green's head, controlling the position. Green looking to pass the guard. Garak can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Green controls the pace.
That's seven minutes gone in the round. Green seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Garak for as long as he can get away with. Garak keeping moving, preventing Green from controlling successfully. Garak has his hands on Green's head, controlling the position. Green pushes down on Garak's leg and manages to get into half guard. Green is trying to control the action in half guard but Garak is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
That's eight minutes gone in the round. Green tries to pass the half guard into mount. Garak knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Green wants to control but Garak is keeping him busy. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Green in particular looking to stall. Garak tries to roll over but Green keeps him under control. Garak is not content to let Green control the position. Green perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
That's nine minutes gone in the round. Garak gets full guard. Garak is trying to control the position but Green postures up. Garak wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now. Green engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. Garak wants to sweep but no luck. Green trying to control the position from guard on top but Garak is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Green is fighting to break Garak's control of his arms but Garak is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Green stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Garak swivels though and keeps the full guard.
That's ten minutes gone in the round. Green is working hard here to advance position. Green controlling from the top position. Garak is controlling Green's posture.
That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Green trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Garak looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Green advances position into side control! That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Green stalling away here and it's allowed Garak to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard. Garak keeping full guard, as Green tries to pass. That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Garak is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Green stalling. Garak is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment. Green seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Green is stalling here. Garak is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom!
