This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the super heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. And in the blue corner, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, with a TWGC record of 57 wins and 42 losses; Ze Jiurgite! The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Felipe Paraventi and Alexandre Firmino.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Mesquita changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Jiurgite tries to avoid it but Mesquita manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Jiurgite to the ground. Jiurgite escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Mesquita fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Mesquita defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Jiurgite. Mesquita drives through and clinches with Jiurgite against the ropes.
Mesquita gets underhooks to prevent Jiurgite's takedown attempt.
Jiurgite gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Mesquita (0) vs (2) Jiurgite Jiurgite wants to control from the top but Mesquita keeps moving. Jiurgite has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Alpha Brasil. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one. Mesquita is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Jiurgite defends well. Mesquita tries to land a sweep but no joy. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Jiurgite controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Jiurgite wants to pass the guard but Mesquita is keeping the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jiurgite trying to control but Mesquita is working from the bottom. Mesquita looking for a guillotine here but Jiurgite defends easily.
Jiurgite looking to sit in guard and control but Mesquita gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Mesquita (2) vs (2) Jiurgite Jiurgite looking to hit a scissor sweep but Mesquita is one step ahead there. Mesquita looking to pass the guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mesquita wants to control from the top but Jiurgite keeps moving. Jiurgite controls Mesquita momentarily but Mesquita frees himself. Jiurgite is looking for a triangle but Mesquita pushes his legs off easily.
Mesquita is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Mesquita stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Jiurgite swivels though and keeps the full guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Jiurgite looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Mesquita has picked Jiurgite up and slammed him! Jiurgite can't keep hold of the triangle and Mesquita manages to pass to side control! Score +3 for passing guard: Mesquita (5) vs (2) Jiurgite Jiurgite is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Mesquita's leg. Oh but that's left an opportunity for Mesquita! He's got an arm triangle... it looks tight! He's rotating and Jiurgite has tapped! This one is allllll over!
