And in the blue corner, fighting out of St Petersburg, with a TWGC record of 79 wins and 81 losses; Darragh Fiachna! The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Alexandre Firmino and Mauricio Rocha.
The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Fiachna closes the distance and clinches. Fiachna is looking to take this one to the mat. Fiachna drops down looking for an ankle pick but Gracie pulls his leg out and moves away.
Fiachna wants to clinch up but Gracie keeps it at a distance. Fiachna looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Gracie is fending him off so far but Fiachna persists. Nope, Gracie circles away and we're back to standing. Gracie drops down looking for a counter takedown but Fiachna sprawls and moves away. Anderson Gracie has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Darragh Fiachna. Fiachna feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Fiachna looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Fiachna wants to control but Gracie is keeping him busy. My spies in The Tank Factory inform me that Fiachna has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends! Fiachna wants to advance to full mount but Gracie doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead. Fiachna stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gracie swivels though and keeps the full guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gracie wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Fiachna is now in half guard. Gracie is refusing to be controlled, as Fiachna sits in half guard. Gracie tries to roll over but Fiachna keeps him under control. Fiachna works his way into side control. That's four minutes gone in the round. Fiachna controlling the position. Gracie is trying to control Fiachna's posture but Fiachna avoids it. A lull in the action here as Fiachna stalls from top position.
That's five minutes gone in the round. Gracie struggling a bit here. Gracie manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. Fiachna is looking to take a break and control but Gracie is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Gracie is concentrating on defense, preventing Fiachna from advancing position. Gracie wants to control but Fiachna is keeping busy and won't allow it. Gracie is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
That's six minutes gone in the round. Gracie is looking for a sweep. Fiachna is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Fiachna wants to pass to mount but Gracie is defending the position. Gracie has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Fiachna is working away from the top position though. Gracie is not content to let Fiachna control the position. Fiachna is trying to work for a kimura but Gracie is defending well.
That's seven minutes gone in the round. The fighters are battling for position here. Gracie manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Gracie keeping moving, preventing Fiachna from controlling successfully. Fiachna controls the pace of the fight for a moment. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Gracie is on top in guard.

That's eight minutes gone in the round. We've been hearing that Gracie has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish. Fiachna is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Fiachna trying to keep a closed guard but Gracie is proving a slippery customer.

Gracie content to control rather than advance. Gracie's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans.
