The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Petersen changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Mesquita tries to avoid it but Petersen manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Mesquita to the ground. Mesquita escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Mesquita closes the distance and pushes Petersen back into the ropes. Petersen is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Mesquita is defending well. Mesquita gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Petersen.
