Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Paulo Mendes (ranked 721 p4p, 609 weight class) and Wesley Stokes (ranked 96 p4p, 81 weight class). Mendes's entrance music is Future - Last Breath. A fine choice. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Paulo Mendes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Wesley Stokes!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Thiago Cunha and Mauricio Rocha.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendes tries to bum rush Stokes with a series of wild strikes but Stokes uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Stokes only half commits to the counter leg kick.
Mendes lands an overhand right.
Mendes tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Stokes manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Mendes connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Mendes lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Stokes circles away quickly and effectively.
Stokes now looks to counter with a shot at the body.
Mendes stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Stokes.
Paulo Mendes seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Mendes has his takedown stuffed
enabling Stokes to counter with a crisp jab.
Mendes shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Stokes counters with a nice body shot.
Mendes misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Paulo Mendes. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Stokes takes the fight into the clinch.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Mendes drops down looking for an ankle pick but Stokes pulls his leg out and moves away.
Stokes scores with a hook.
Mendes sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Mendes doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Mendes misses with a takedown
and Stokes counters with a good low kick that Mendes was not able to check.
Stokes ducks under a wild hook from Mendes.
Mendes has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Mendes there as he acknowledges the shot.
It looks like Paulo Mendes has been cut.
Mendes misses with a hook to the body
and Stokes counters with a nice body shot.
Mendes works over Stokes's head and body with a nice combination.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Mendes swings widly with a right hand
and Stokes connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
Stokes drops Mendes with a beautiful combination! Mendes stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Stokes is looking for the KO!
Mendes lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Mendes throws an off balance right hand
enabling Stokes to counter with a crisp jab.
Mendes is rocked!
Stokes thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Mendes if he has to take too many more of those.
Mendes with a nice cross.
Stokes looks to score with a jab to the body but Mendes is just out of range.
Mendes attempts a counter takedown but Stokes avoids it well and moves away.
Mendes shoots and misses
and Stokes counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Paulo Mendes's cut is getting worse.
Mendes looks to land a right hand but Stokes moved out of range.
Mendes tries for a takedown but Stokes circles away easily
and Stokes counters with a nice right hand that sends Mendes toppling to the canvas! Mendes scrambles and gets back to his feet - can Stokes finish him?!
Oh Mendes is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Mendes is breathing heavily.
Stokes finds Mendes's off switch, with a big overhand right that connects perfectly to the side of the head! Mendes flops back against the cage, eyes gazing into the distance. Stokes lands an unnecessary shot before the referee has time to step in and end the fight. Brutal stuff but I'm sure Mendes will be OK.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:54 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Wesley Stokes!
