Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Doo Ho Choi (ranked 3091 p4p, 25046 weight class) and Clark Zapata (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Zapata's choice of entrance music: Alab ng Puso. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Doo Ho Choi! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 1 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Clark Zapata! The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Yasuomi Hirokawa.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Zapata fails in his attempt to clinch. A big right from Zapata misses. Clark Zapata seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Zapata moves to clinch but Choi breaks away and Choi cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Choi takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Zapata shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Choi counters with a straight right hand. Zapata uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Choi. Zapata checks a leg kick nicely. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Zapata goes for a double leg but Choi avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Choi continues to drive forward. A bone on bone clash there as Zapata blocks the leg kick.
Zapata shoots and misses and Choi counters with a one-two to the body. Doo Ho Choi has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Clark Zapata. Zapata misses with a combination
and Choi cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
That's one minute gone in the round. Zapata fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Choi, pushing him back against the cage. Zapata is looking to break free of the clinch but Choi has double underhooks. Choi tries to pull guard but Zapata won't allow it.

Zapata breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Zapata drives through and clinches with Choi against the cage.
Zapata is defending well against a takedown attempt. Choi jumps guard but Zapata turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing. Choi is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Zapata is defending well. Zapata is trying to drag Choi to the mat but Choi just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. Choi tries to pull guard but Zapata holds him up against the cage and eventually Choi drops back down to his feet.
Choi has clasped his hands together around Zapata's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Zapata tries to get back to half guard but can't. Zapata is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here. Choi stands up and we're back to a striking position. Choi throws the left hand but Zapata avoids the punch easily. A punch combination from Zapata misses. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Zapata closes the distance looking to clinch and Choi counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Choi has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Zapata finds it's way round the side to connect with Choi's head. Choi circles away from the clinch attempt and Choi counters with a straight right hand.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Choi throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Zapata counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Zapata darts in trying to clinch enabling Choi to counter with a crisp jab. Zapata swings away with a body shot that misses
and Choi counters with a lovely straight right hand! Zapata connects with the punch. Zapata has managed to clinch.
Choi tries for a takedown but Zapata manages to get underhooks.
Zapata breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Zapata moves into the clinch. Zapata escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Zapata pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way. An attempted straight right counter from Choi misses the target. Zapata misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
A little feinted left hand from Choi on the counter but he doesn't commit to it. This has been an exciting period of action! Zapata clinches up against the cage. Choi drags the fight down to the ground.
Choi working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Zapata doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Choi is tightening it up a little... Zapata has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Zapata reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Zapata taps out! Nice BJJ there by Choi!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:52 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Doo Ho Choi! Doo Ho Choi seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website. Clark Zapata spoke after the fight, saying 'I will learn from this.'.
