Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Bruce Backwell (ranked 3827 p4p, 3769 weight class) and Ross Clay (ranked 299 p4p, 0 weight class). Bruce Backwell has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bruce Backwell! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Ross Clay! The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Cecil Peabody and Stewart Dunkirk.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Clay lands a head kick. Backwell smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
It looks like Bruce Backwell has been cut. Backwell throws a left and a right that both miss
and Clay counters by clinching up. Clay tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Backwell tries to pull guard but Clay holds him up against the cage and eventually Backwell drops back down to his feet.
Backwell stalling in the clinch but Clay improves position. Backwell really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Clay is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Backwell to keep the fight standing. Backwell's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button! A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors. Backwell is trying to pull guard but Clay turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch. Backwell tries to pull guard but Clay won't allow it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bruce Backwell. That's going to take a lot out of him. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Clay lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.

Clay manages to hold on to the position though. Clay wants to control but Backwell is keeping him busy. Backwell stops Clay from passing to mount. Clay darts in and clinches Backwell up against the cage. Backwell is trying to break the clinch but Clay is controlling him. Clay's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Backwell throws a good cross that connects.

Clay closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Clay advances to full mount. Backwell is trying to stand.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Backwell tries to buck Clay off but Clay takes his back! Backwell wants to get back to his feet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Backwell staying busy and making it hard for Clay to control. Backwell is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet. Clay tries to get the hooks in deep but Backwell pushed the leg off. Clay trying to secure his dominant position for a moment - making sure Backwell doesn't escape. Ross Clay dominated that round. The cut man is working on Bruce Backwell's cut. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Backwell rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Clay moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Clay throws a counter combo. Bruce Backwell is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Clay avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Backwell uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Clay has time to react. Backwell keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Clay shoots for a double leg takedown but Backwell sprawls well. He's pushed Clay's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Backwell leaves Clay with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Backwell throws a left and a right that both miss

Backwell tries to avoid it but Clay manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Backwell to the ground. Backwell escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Backwell throws a series of punches but Clay avoids them all with ease. Backwell feints a jab promting Clay to slip. Backwell then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Clay slips again and ducks right into an uppercut. Bruce Backwell is winning the standup battle so far. Backwell lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Clay keeps the fight on the outside. Clay with the counter takedown but Backwell avoids it easily. Backwell throws a series of punches but Clay moves out of range. Clay is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here. Backwell gets tackled into the cage by Clay. Clay maintains the clinch. Backwell tries to pull guard but Clay holds him up against the cage and eventually Backwell drops back down to his feet.

Clay jumps guard but Backwell stands there with Clay around his waist. Clay gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here. A frustrated look appears on Backwell's face as he tries to break the clinch. Backwell has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate. Clay is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Backwell to keep the fight standing. Backwell pulls Clay into guard.
Clay pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Backwell is keeping the position for now. Backwell is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Backwell trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful. Ross Clay has got the better of the ground game so far. Clay working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Clay trying to control the position from guard on top but Backwell is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Backwell is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. Clay throws a wild body kick that Backwell sees coming a mile off. Backwell lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Backwell. Clay dodges the punch combination from Backwell.
Clay feints the counter takedown. Backwell throws a right hand that Clay ducks under and follows up with a left that Clay also avoids with ease. Horrible takedown attempt by Clay or perhaps it was just good defense by Backwell, which made it look bad.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A punch combination from Backwell misses. No joy there for Backwell, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
The fight moves into the clinch position. Backwell is trying to pull guard but Clay turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch. Backwell is looking to control Clay's arms but Clay gets an underhook and turns him. Now Backwell has his back to the cage. Backwell wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Backwell tries to work over Clay's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target. A bit of stalling here from Clay.

Backwell pulls Clay into guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Bruce Backwell dominated that second round. The cut man is working on Bruce Backwell's cut. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round! Backwell closes the distance and lands a one-two. Backwell dodges the punch combination from Clay.
Clay instigates a clinch. Clay gets control of Backwell's arms and successfully pulls guard. Clay will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back. Backwell wants to stand and escape but instead Clay has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Backwell will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Backwell is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Clay is controlling him. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Clay stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Backwell swivels though and keeps the full guard. Backwell is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
That's one minute gone in the round. Backwell wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Clay manages to pass to side control. Clay wants to take a breather but Backwell is having none of it. Backwell is trying to stand.
Clay postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Backwell to stand up. Clay takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Backwell misses with a double jab.
Clay darts in and clinches Backwell up against the cage. Clay is working for takedown but Backwell is calmly controlling the position for now. A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors. Clay tries to pull guard but Backwell holds him up against the cage and eventually Clay drops back down to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Clay tries to move to mount but Backwell blocks the move with his legs. Clay prevents Backwell from escaping the position. Clay working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Backwell is trying to get back to his feet.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Sloppy strikes from Backwell. Those never looked like landing. Backwell throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Clay with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Backwell to score with a decent uppercut. Backwell fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Clay moves into the clinch. Clay fails to pull guard.
Bruce Backwell has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ross Clay. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Clay pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Clay keeps the fight on the outside. Backwell is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range. Clay showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Backwell.
And that's the end of the fight! Ross Clay comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I think Clay has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
