Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Yoji Anjo Anjo (ranked 2097 p4p, 2544 weight class) and Paul Herrera (ranked 257 p4p, 309 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Paul Herrera was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 27 - 38 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Yoji Anjo Anjo! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 11 - 23 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Paul Herrera! The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Percy O'Donnell and Don Winkell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Herrera throws a head kick that misses. Herrera avoids a punch combination nicely.
Herrera tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Herrera shoots in looking for a takedown. Anjo tries to sprawl out of it but Herrera keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Anjo manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Herrera fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Anjo avoids it really well and circles away. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Anjo tries to keep at a distance but Herrera has taken the fight into the clinch. Herrera breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Herrera's coach down at MMA Training and Sparring Buddies was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Herrera's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
That's one minute gone in the round. Anjo shoots in and bounces Herrera off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Herrera can't keep his opponent in guard - Anjo advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Anjo is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Herrera is just riding it out for now. Anjo eventually gives up the hold. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Anjo looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Herrera tries to roll over but Anjo keeps him under control. Anjo is figuring out what he wants to do next. Herrera is trying to control but can't.
Anjo seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Herrera blocking the ground and pound attempt from Anjo.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Anjo is looking for a kimura but Herrera is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Anjo to get the leverage. Anjo trying to control the action but Herrera is working from the bottom. Anjo is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Herrera is trying to maintain the position but Anjo is very close to passing his half guard.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Anjo shoots in and gets a takedown into Herrera's guard. Anjo slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Herrera is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Anjo controlling from the top position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Anjo lands a couple of decent looking shots. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Yoji Anjo Anjo dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Anjo shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Anjo showed some decent athleticism there. Anjo is taking a breather. Herrera says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Anjo is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Herrera can do to turn this around? We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Herrera trying to control here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Anjo is controlling the pace.
Herrera is not content to let Anjo control the position. Herrera is trying to get back to full guard. Herrera avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Anjo.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. Anjo has a takedown stuffed.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Herrera tries to close the distance and clinch up but Anjo swats him away and circles back towards the center. It looked like Anjo was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit. Herrera shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Anjo but Anjo pushes him off and we're back to square one. Herrera pushes Anjo up against the cage in a clinch. Anjo works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard. Anjo sitting in guard here, content to control. Herrera is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Anjo is controlling him. Anjo trying to control but Herrera is working from the bottom.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Herrera is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Herrera keeping moving, preventing Anjo from controlling successfully. Anjo controls from within his opponent's guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Herrera lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard. Anjo has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. Herrera got a little sloppy there for a moment and Anjo has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Herrera has managed to get both his arms back between Anjo's legs - danger averted. Anjo working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Herrera doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Herrera manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Anjo keeping moving, preventing Herrera from controlling successfully. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Yoji Anjo Anjo dominated that second round. That's time! Anjo's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round! Anjo tries to clinch but Herrera is having none of it. Herrera fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Anjo avoids it really well and circles away. Anjo shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Herrera changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Anjo looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Anjo bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet! Herrera moves into the clinch successfully.

Herrera gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Anjo looking for a takedown. Anjo pulls Herrera into guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Herrera wants to control from the top but Anjo keeps moving. Herrera is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully. Herrera is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Herrera must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Let's hope that Herrera has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. Herrera looking to sit in guard and control but Anjo gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Anjo trying to control but Herrera is working from the bottom. Anjo gets to his feet. Herrera looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son! Herrera fails with the takedown and Herrera takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Herrera tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Anjo fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Yoji Anjo Anjo. That's going to take a lot out of him.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Herrera gets in close and instigates a clinch. Herrera turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control! Anjo is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Herrera trying to control the position but Anjo is working away. Anjo is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at MMA Training and Sparring Buddies, so we'll see if he gets out of it. Anjo struggling a bit here. Anjo is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Herrera is trying to work for a kimura but Anjo is defending well.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Anjo is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Herrera seems to be working for a kimura but Anjo defends the submission attempt. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Anjo is trying to maintain the position but Herrera is very close to passing his half guard.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Yoji Anjo Anjo. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Anjo, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent.
