PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a heavyweight kickboxing rules bout between Hans Schultz (ranked 3345 p4p, 3669 weight class) and Boban Turnik (ranked 383 p4p, 405 weight class). Schultz's entrance music is Love Bites. A fine choice. Boban Turnik told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 24 - 9 - 0, fighting out of New York, Hans Schultz! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 18 - 10 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Boban Turnik! The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Chris Saunders and Ryoma Takatsuka.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Schultz wants to clinch but Turnik slips to the side and Turnik cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
It looks like Hans Schultz has been cut. Turnik is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Schultz. Schultz is looking to counter with a shot to the body. Schultz moves out of range as Turnik throws a body kick.
Turnik misses with a lunging right hand
and Schultz cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
It looks like Boban Turnik has been cut. Turnik throws a big shot that misses. A counter left hand to the body from Schultz misses its target. Turnik throws a right and a left that both miss. Schultz dodges the punch combination from Turnik.
Turnik lands a nice shot to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Schultz misses with a straight left. Schultz throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Schultz moves into the clinch. Our sources have told us that Schultz has been working on his elbows in the gym. Turnik pushes Schultz back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
That's one minute gone in the round. Turnik working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely. Turnik misses with a hook from the clinch. Schultz with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head. Schultz tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Turnik avoids it. Turnik is trying to break the clinch but Schultz has him pressed against the cage. Turnik working aggressively here.
Turnik pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Turnik throws a sloppy body shot
and Schultz counters with a straight right hand. Schultz throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Turnik unleashes a big counter combination but Schultz bobs and weaves and avoids any damage. Turnik misses with an uppercut. Schultz saw that one coming. Schultz was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger. Schultz throws an overhand right that lands on Turnik's shoulder, as Turnik tries to avoid the shot. Schultz misses with a looping right. Turnik throws a fast counter high kick but Schultz manages to duck under it in time. Turnik uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Schultz. A low kick from Turnik is predictable there and Schultz connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Turnik swings widly with a right hand
and Schultz counters with a stiff right hand. Turnik lands an overhand right.
That's two minutes gone in the round. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Schultz misses with a lunging right hand
and Turnik counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Turnik pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Schultz is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Turnik. Turnik misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Schultz.
Turnik lands a head shot. Turnik jabs Schultz right on the nose. Schultz blinks but takes it well. Schultz with a hook. Turnik throws a right and a left that both miss. Turnik throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Schultz counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
That has opened up Boban Turnik's cut even more. Schultz scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one. The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end. Schultz is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Turnik throws out a loose jab but Schultz uses good head movement to avoid it. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Boban Turnik will probably get the nod. Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Nice jab there from Schultz. Schultz scores a flash knockdown with a right hook that drops Turnik to his hands and knees! The ref pushes Schultz away as he looks to land an illegal blow. Turnik got an extra few seconds to recover there, which could have made all the differences as he stumbles back to his feet. The referee looks into his eyes and decides to allow the bout to continue. Can he survive?! Boban Turnik seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Schultz moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross. Turnik swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Turnik walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Turnik is rocked!
The cut above Boban Turnik's eye is starting to cause him problems now. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Schultz loads up on a big right hand but Turnik slips the punch. Turnik closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so. Turnik is still on wobbly legs! Can Schultz finish him? A big right from Schultz misses. Turnik seems to have recovered his senses. Turnik misses with an uppercut
and Schultz counters with a straight right that drops Turnik to the canvas! Will Turnik beat the count? He's still wobbly and as the count reaches 7, he's still struggling to make it. 8...9...10. He's out!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:43 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punch). Hans Schultz! Hans Schultz tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
