This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the super heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Rio de Janeiro, with a TWGC record of 23 wins and 13 losses; Jim Marston! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Los Angeles, with a TWGC record of 36 wins and 20 losses; Tanner Kyng! The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, William Peck and Steve Smith.
The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way. Marston rushes Kyng and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Kyng has Marston pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Marston manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. Kyng changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Marston fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Marston shoots and misses and Kyng counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Kyng. Kyng drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Marston gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Kyng is the more experienced fighter here and he's going to need to draw on some of that experience if he's going to pull this one out the bag. Marston takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Kyng felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it. Kyng tries to lock up and control but Marston gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Marston seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but Kyng is holding on tight.

Marston is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Kyng is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. Kyng wants to hold on but Marston pushes him away.

Kyng sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though. Kyng wants to control but Marston is keeping busy and won't allow it. Kyng tries to get to full guard but Marston has control of the leg. Marston is pressing down on Kyng's thigh, looking to free his foot. Kyng is holding on for now. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Marston content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
