Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Philip Roth (ranked 881 p4p, 3184 weight class) and Richie Aprile (ranked 114 p4p, 356 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 7 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Philip Roth! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Richie Aprile! The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Eliza Hachem and Ben Watson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Roth swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Roth moves away from the strike by Aprile. Aprile throws a body punch but Roth moves out of range. Roth looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. Aprile getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
It looks like Philip Roth has been cut. Roth throws out a token jab with nothing on it. And an attempted straight right on the counter from Aprile! But no joy. Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Roth, as that shot connected.
Roth needs to keep his hands up - Aprile had a free shot at his head there. Roth scores with a crisp jab that stopped Aprile in his tracks. Roth shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Aprile's guard. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Roth looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Roth stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Aprile swivels though and keeps the full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Aprile is looking to stand up but Roth isn't so interested in that idea. Roth trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Aprile seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now. Roth advances to half guard. Roth wants to control but Aprile is keeping him busy. Aprile wants to get back to full guard. Aprile kicks Roth off and gets back to his feet. Aprile looks to throw the jab but Roth is out of range.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Aprile avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Roth ducks under a wild hook from Aprile. Roth lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook. Roth shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Aprile counters with a stiff right hand. Roth throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Aprile on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Roth ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Aprile moves away. Roth tries to move into range but Aprile moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand. Horrible takedown attempt by Roth or perhaps it was just good defense by Aprile, which made it look bad. Aprile throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Roth on the side of the head. Roth lands with an uppercut that bounces Aprile off the cage and back into range. Roth is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches. Roth misses with a left hand and Aprile counters with a series of strikes that sends Roth to the canvas! Aprile follows down into guard, looking to finish the fight!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Roth not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Roth is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Roth has his foot on Aprile's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Aprile works his way back into a safe position though. Aprile decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Aprile misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Roth.
Aprile misses with a shot to the body and Roth counters with a stiff right hand. Roth walks into a straight right hand from Aprile. Aprile lands with a good body shot. Aprile tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Roth was well out of range. Poor timing from Aprile. A left and a right from Roth both land. Nice combination. Roth throws the left hand but Aprile avoids the punch easily. Roth shoots in but doesn't get the takedown letting Aprile counter with a right hand. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Philip Roth. That's going to take a lot out of him.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Aprile works Roth's body with a nice hook. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Aprile changes levels and scores with a jab to the body. Roth is breathing heavily. Roth uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Aprile. Aprile jabs Roth right on the nose. Roth blinks but takes it well. The fighters circling - Aprile throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Aprile lands with a nice combination. Roth backs away looking to recover.
Roth is rocked! Aprile misses with a body shot.
Roth is looking to counter punch. A looping hook to the body misses from Aprile. Roth does a little dance to reset his feet. Roth attempts a counter takedown but Aprile avoids it well and moves away. Aprile lands a jab. Roth scores with a jab to the body. The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end. Roth staying out of range there. Roth misses with a lunging right hand
and Roth takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Aprile blocks a jab. Roth is starting to get sloppy and is letting his hands down. Aprile just took advantage and landed a stinging jab. Oh! Now a right hook, right on the button! Roth has gone limp and this one is over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Richie Aprile! During a confident post fight interview, Richie Aprile thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
