This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the super heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 15 wins and 33 losses; Red Hestler! The judges for this bout are George Francis, Gwen Towbar and Cecil Peabody.
The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way.
Hestler darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Shimada (0) vs (2) Hestler Hestler trying to advance position but Shimada counters by regaining guard. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Hestler won't allow Shimada to sweep him here. Hestler is looking to advance position but Shimada has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount! Score +4 for clean sweep to past guard: Shimada (4) vs (2) Hestler Hestler tries to lock up and control but Shimada gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Shimada fails to take his opponent's back. Hestler is in all sorts of trouble here.

Hestler is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Shimada is staying active. Shimada looking to control but Hestler is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Hestler can't escape the position.
Shimada with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

 That's two minutes gone in the round. Shimada wants to control the pace but Hestler is squirming around nicely. Shimada takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Hestler is just holding on here. Shimada manages to take his back.

Shimada seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Hestler is taking a breather. Shimada says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Shimada works his way to full guard. Good work. Shimada can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Hestler controls the pace.
 That's five minutes gone in the round. Shimada is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. Hestler controls from within his opponent's guard. Shimada trying to control the position.

Shimada is looking for a triangle but Hestler pushes his legs off easily.
Hestler must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Hestler is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
 That's seven minutes gone in the round. Shimada wants to sweep but no luck. Shimada keeping moving, preventing Hestler from controlling successfully. Hestler slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Let's hope that Hestler has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
 That's eight minutes gone in the round. It looks like Hestler might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. Shimada working a defensive guard but Hestler manages to pass into side control anyway.

Hestler might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Shimada haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
 That's twelve minutes gone in the round. Hestler happy to just control the position for now. Shimada wants to control but Hestler postures up. Hestler content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

 That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. The referee asks Hestler politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Hestler prefers to stall for the moment though. Shimada is trying to get back to half guard. Hestler happy to just control the position for now. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that's the end of the fight! As we have tied on points, we go to a tie breaker and Shimada gets a bonus point for attempting more subs. Shimada takes the fight on points by 8 to 7. |
