Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sonny Hawkins! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Carlos Valverde! The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, William Gold and Richard Clark.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hawkins dives in for a single leg takedown but Valverde sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. Valverde tries to counter with a clinch but Hawkins shakes him off and moves away. Valverde breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Hawkins tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Valverde paws at him with a jab and circles away. Valverde is trying hard to land a takedown here. Hawkins sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Valverde slaps away a takedown attempt from Hawkins, before circling back to the center of the mat. Valverde displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Hawkins. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sonny Hawkins. That's going to take a lot out of him. Valverde looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Hawkins being controlled here, momentarily. Hawkins knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Valverde on the ground.
That's one minute gone in the round. It looks like Valverde might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. Valverde content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Valverde throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Hawkins being controlled here, momentarily. Valverde's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. Hawkins looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Hawkins trying to control the position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. Hawkins tries to close the distance and clinch up but Valverde swats him away and circles back towards the center. Hawkins moves into range and clinches up with Valverde. Valverde has clasped his hands together around Hawkins's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done. Valverde is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Hawkins will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already. Valverde cracks Hawkins with a big right hand but Hawkins just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Valverde is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position. Valverde scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Hawkins to see if he's OK.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Valverde is trying to get an arm triangle but Hawkins is defending well. Valverde in side control, working for a kimura. He's got hold of an arm and he's torquing it... Hawkins is tapping! That's the end of the fight!
