Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Dante Mercado (ranked 4091 p4p, 3560 weight class) and Adriano Bucombo (ranked 305 p4p, 282 weight class). Adriano Bucombo acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Dante Mercado!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Adriano Bucombo!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Stewart Dunkirk and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mercado drives through with a takedown into Bucombo's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Bucombo is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Mercado dives into side control.
Bucombo looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!

Mercado is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Bucombo will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Mercado in side control, throwing shots but Bucombo defends.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mercado remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Mercado has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

Mercado looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Mercado is standing up over Bucombo. Bucombo looks to escape but Mercado dives into side control.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mercado is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Bucombo will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Mercado sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Bucombo is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Bucombo really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mercado. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Mercado controls the position.
Mercado will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Mercado advances nicely into full mount.
Mercado controlling his opponent.
Mercado lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Mercado tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Mercado lands a nice shot to the head.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Mercado is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Bucombo is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bucombo avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Bucombo is breathing heavily.
Mercado advances to half guard.

Mercado stalling.
This is a sustained period of stalling by Mercado.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Mercado throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Mercado looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Mercado is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Bucombo can do to turn this around?

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Mercado shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Bucombo's guard.
Mercado's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Mercado seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Bucombo for as long as he can get away with.

Mercado's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Mercado throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Bucombo tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Mercado is in Bucombo's guard.
Dante Mercado overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Bucombo can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Mercado controls the pace.
Mercado advances to half guard.
Mercado throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Mercado has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Mercado takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Mercado closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Bucombo did well to prevent Mercado getting side control.
Bucombo is in trouble now - Mercado has advanced to mount!
Mercado sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Bucombo takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
More hug and hope from Mercado.
Mercado continues to hold on tight.

We've been informed that Bucombo has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Mercado looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Mercado misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

Adriano Bucombo has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Dante Mercado is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Well Mercado has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
