Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Maka Pili (ranked 3064 p4p, 4224 weight class) and Tlover Gexeira (ranked 359 p4p, 462 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Maka Pili! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Tlover Gexeira! The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, James Atkins and Phil Schofield.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gexeira has managed to clinch.
Pili looking for a takedown. Gexeira lands with a short shot to the head. Gexeira pressing his opponent against the cage. Pili drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Pili lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Gexeira tries to kick Pili off but Pili keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Gexeira really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Pili. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Gexeira is refusing to be controlled, as Pili sits in half guard. Gexeira is looking to escape. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Gexeira is trying to escape back to his feet but Pili uses the scramble to pass into side control.
Pili is trying to get an arm triangle but Gexeira is defending well. Gexeira is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Pili asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Maka Pili dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Gexeira defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Pili. Gexeira tries to counter by closing the distance. Pili drives through with a takedown into Gexeira's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Gexeira can do anything to dispel that myth. Pili won't allow Gexeira to get back to his feet. Pili content to stall in guard here. Gexeira wants to get back to his feet but Pili is in a dominant position and won't allow it. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Pili not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Gexeira is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Pili manages to hold on to the position though. Maka Pili overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Gexeira tries to escape back to his feet but Pili has kept hold of him... Oh, now he's got Gexeira's back and is looking for the choke... Is it? Is it sunk in? YES! Gexeira is tapping! Pili saw the opportunity and took it - ruthless!
