Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Rory Devaney (ranked 2606 p4p, 4692 weight class) and Mathew Nielsen (ranked 238 p4p, 379 weight class). Rory Devaney has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 8 - 7 - 1, fighting out of London, Rory Devaney! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mathew Nielsen! The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Wagner Zegers and Daniel Blasius.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nielsen fails with an attempt to clinch.
Devaney throws a push kick but Nielsen slaps the foot to one side. Nielsen is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch. Devaney punishes Nielsen's body with a nice straight punch. Devaney throws a push kick but Nielsen slaps the foot to one side. Devaney throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Devaney gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Nielsen showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Nielsen drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Devaney manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Nielsen has Devaney in his guard. Nielsen has control of Devaney's left arm, preventing Devaney from doing any damage.
That's one minute gone in the round. Nielsen is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Nielsen is looking to stand up but Devaney isn't so interested in that idea. Nielsen looking to control.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Nielsen holds on and takes a little breather.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Nielsen lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard. Nielsen tries to free his leg and advance position but Devaney is retaining full guard. Nielsen is still trying to improve position. Nielsen trying to control but Devaney is working from the bottom. Devaney knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Nielsen on the ground. Nielsen drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Nielsen jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Devaney looking to control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Nielsen looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. A head kick misses from Nielsen. Devaney moves into range and connects with a jab. Devaney scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Nielsen doesn't seem bothered though. Devaney stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Nielsen misses with a body kick. Devaney lands a right hook to the body.
Devaney definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Nielsen tries for a takedown but Devaney sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Nielsen looks winded! Devaney lands a left and a right that send Nielsen crashing to the mat, dazed. Devaney thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!
Nielsen is rocked!
It looks like Mathew Nielsen has been cut. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Nielsen takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch. Devaney feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Nielsen sprawling to the canvas! Nielsen rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Devaney finish him?!
Nielsen is still on wobbly legs! Can Devaney finish him? Rory Devaney seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Devaney steps into range and unloads a brutal right left combo! Nielsen is out on his feet! Devaney sets himself and nearly takes Nielsen's head off with a straight right, sending him crashing to the mat! Wow, that was nasty... but awesome! Wooo!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:32 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Rory Devaney!
