And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 0 wins and 0 losses; Yip Man Iii! The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Jonathan Paton and Bruno Lombardi.
The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Man Iii closes the distance and clinches. Man Iii has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Goble is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Goble has hold of one of Man Iii's legs. Man Iii is fighting the takedown attempt but Goble gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Goble (2) vs (0) Man Iii Man Iii tries to land a sweep but no joy. Goble is pushing down on Man Iii's leg trying to pass to half guard. Man Iii is fighting to maintain full guard but Goble has managed to sneak the leg through. Man Iii trying to hold on to Goble's head to control him but Goble postures up.
Man Iii tries to roll over but Goble keeps him under control. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Man Iii is doing well to control the position and prevent Goble from advancing to side control. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Goble is taking a breather. Man Iii says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
That's one minute gone in the round. Man Iii keeps control of the position for the meantime. Goble seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Man Iii trying to control but Goble postures up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Goble takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Man Iii is trying to maintain the position but Goble is very close to passing his half guard. Man Iii wants to get back to full guard. Man Iii regains full guard. Nicely done. Goble wants to pass the guard but Man Iii is keeping the position. Goble controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Man Iii is pulling down on Goble's head. It's preventing any offense from Goble, at least for the moment. Goble controlling from the top position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Man Iii is trying to control the position but Goble postures up. Goble advances position into side control! Score +3 for passing guard: Goble (5) vs (0) Man Iii Man Iii is looking for a sweep. Man Iii is letting Goble control him for a moment. Man Iii struggling a bit here. Man Iii tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Goble wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
That's five minutes gone in the round. A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet. Man Iii tries to buck Goble off but Goble is having none of it.
That's six minutes gone in the round. Man Iii is letting Goble control him for a moment. Goble working away. Man Iii is trying to escape the position but Goble is controlling the position. Man Iii struggling a bit here. Goble is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Man Iii will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already. Goble's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
That's seven minutes gone in the round. Man Iii is looking to reverse the position. You can see the frustration on Man Iii's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Man Iii tries to buck Goble off but Goble is having none of it. The referee asks Goble politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Goble prefers to stall for the moment though. Man Iii is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Goble is pressing down on Man Iii's thigh, looking to free his foot. Man Iii is holding on for now. Still in half guard, Goble seems content to control. Goble wants to free his trapped foot but Man Iii is holding on for dear life with his legs. Man Iii trying to hold on to Goble's head to control him but Goble postures up.

That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Man Iii tries to improve his position but instead Goble has taken his back! Score +3 for taking back: Goble (11) vs (0) Man Iii The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Goble just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.
That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Further stalling from Goble. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Man Iii can't escape the position.
And that's the end of the fight! Goble takes the fight on points by 11 to 0. Shane Goble seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website. |
