Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between John Taylor (ranked 4837 p4p, 3301 weight class) and Rick Viaz (ranked 386 p4p, 295 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Taylor!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Rick Viaz!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Chris Edwards and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Viaz has Taylor up against the cage in a clinch.

Viaz jumps guard.
Taylor trying to control but Viaz is working from the bottom.
Taylor postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Taylor wants to control from the top but Viaz keeps moving.
Taylor lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Taylor stops Viaz from standing up.
Viaz trying to keep a closed guard but Taylor is proving a slippery customer.

Viaz looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Viaz has control of Taylor's left arm, preventing Taylor from doing any damage.
Viaz lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Taylor manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Viaz manages to get himself to full guard.

Taylor connects with a couple of short punches.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Viaz has momentary wrist control but Taylor slips an elbow through the middle.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Viaz manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.

Viaz wants the takedown. Taylor is fighting it off but Viaz persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Taylor's guard against the cage.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Viaz avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Taylor has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Viaz wants to pass the guard but Taylor is keeping the position.
Viaz slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Taylor looking to hit a scissor sweep but Viaz is one step ahead there.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Viaz's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Taylor has his foot on Viaz's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Viaz works his way back into a safe position though.

Viaz decides to stand up, so the ref orders Taylor to his feet.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Taylor throws a hook but Viaz avoids it easily.

Viaz looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Taylor!

Taylor is looking to reverse the position.

Viaz has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Taylor tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Viaz defends well and Taylor ends up having to push Viaz into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Viaz has clasped his hands together around Taylor's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.

Viaz tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Viaz has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Viaz looks up at the clock and then as Taylor takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Viaz smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Viaz works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

Viaz wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Taylor, who protects the arm well.
Viaz takes a little break here. Taylor wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Rick Viaz showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Taylor tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Viaz swivels and escapes.

Viaz throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Viaz has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Viaz clinches up with Taylor and pushes him back against the cage.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
The adventures of Viaz the control monster continue. Boring.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Viaz really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Taylor. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Viaz shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
No luck for Taylor with that takedown attempt.

Taylor goes for a double leg but Viaz avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Viaz continues to drive forward.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Taylor. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Viaz is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Viaz escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Taylor gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Well Viaz has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
