And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 65 wins and 81 losses; Anthony Lavicci!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Yves DeLean and Trevor Gratis.


The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way.

Phoenix throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Lavicci was covering up waiting for the punch and Phoenix finishes the takedown easily into guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Phoenix stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Lavicci swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Lavicci tries to get to full guard but Phoenix has control of the leg.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Lavicci is positioning himself well to prevent Phoenix advancing to mount.
We've been hearing good reports from Phoenix's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Phoenix prevents Lavicci from improving his position.
Lavicci has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Ground Zero Workout Gym. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Phoenix wants to free his trapped foot but Lavicci is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Phoenix looking to sit in guard and control but Lavicci gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Lavicci wants to free his trapped foot but Phoenix is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Phoenix trying to control but Lavicci postures up.
Lavicci uses his free foot to push down on Phoenix's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Phoenix.

Lavicci is looking to work his way around to Phoenix's back. He needs to be careful though, as he's in danger of losing this dominant position.

Phoenix is squirming around, avoiding Lavicci's attempts to control the action.

Phoenix is controlling an arm, preventing Lavicci from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.
Lavicci tries to control but Phoenix wriggling away.
Lavicci looking to take Phoenix's back but Phoenix rolls and after a scramble, Phoenix ends up on top in guard. Nice escape there from Phoenix to escape a tricky position.

Lavicci manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Phoenix manages to get himself to full guard.

Lavicci trying to control the position from guard on top but Phoenix is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Phoenix is pulling down on Lavicci's head. It's preventing any offense from Lavicci, at least for the moment.
Lavicci stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Phoenix swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Lavicci passes into half guard.
Phoenix trying to hold on to Lavicci's head to control him but Lavicci postures up.
Phoenix is staying active underneath Lavicci, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Phoenix won't allow Lavicci to pass to mount.

Lavicci trying to advance position but Phoenix counters by regaining guard.
Lavicci pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Phoenix is keeping the position for now.
Phoenix looking for a sweep. Not yet Phoenix, not yet.
Lavicci is looking to advance position but Phoenix has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

Phoenix wants to control the pace but Lavicci is squirming around nicely.
Phoenix tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Lavicci is trying to escape the mount.

That's fourteen minutes gone in the round.
Phoenix takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Lavicci is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

And that's the end of the fight!
Lavicci wins on points by 10 to 8.
Our winner, Anthony Lavicci, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
