This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the light heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 86 wins and 59 losses; Vasiliy Kulik! The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Alyssa Summers and Eddie Farnsworth.
The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way. Yi closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Kulik quickly recovers to half guard. Kulik is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Yi seems to be working for a kimura but Kulik defends the submission attempt. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Yi is looking for a kimura here.

Yi slips a leg in and gets back to half guard. Yi is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Kulik's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Kulik's back! Both fighters are looking very determined. Yi seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Yi has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.

Kulik controls Yi momentarily but Yi frees himself. Yi has gone for a leg lock! Kulik slips out almost immediately though and dives into Yi's guard. Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Yi (8) vs (35) Kulik Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Yi has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Kulik is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control!
