This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the welterweight division. Introducing today's competitors. And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 6 wins and 6 losses; Elim Garak! The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Dean Styles and John Kavanagh.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Garak takes the fight into the clinch. Garak gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Kersikov (0) vs (2) Garak Kersikov looking to hit a scissor sweep but Garak is one step ahead there. Garak's corner is telling him to maintain position. Garak trying to control the position from guard on top but Kersikov is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Garak stays in close to Kersikov's body and controls the position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Kersikov pulls Garak in to control the position.

Garak wants to control from the top but Kersikov keeps moving. Garak looking to pass the guard. Garak keeps trying to improve his position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kersikov has Garak pulled in close to control his posture. Kersikov wants to sweep here but Garak controlling him for the moment. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Kersikov is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. Garak pushing down on Kersikov's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Kersikov preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head. Garak looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Garak tries to pass the half guard into mount. Kersikov knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Garak wants to take a breather but Kersikov is having none of it.

Kersikov slips a leg in and gets back to half guard. Garak stalling. We've been hearing good reports from Kersikov's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
That's five minutes gone in the round. Garak is keen to just control but Kersikov is a slippery customer. Kersikov wants to get back to full guard but Garak has passed into side control. That's seven minutes gone in the round. Garak working away. Kersikov tries to buck Garak off but Garak is having none of it. Garak wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kersikov keeps working. Garak tries to move to mount but Kersikov blocks the move with his legs. Garak gets to mount! Kersikov was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly. That's eight minutes gone in the round. Kersikov tries to hold on but Garak postures up. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Garak trying to control but Kersikov is having none of it. Kersikov wants to hold on but Garak pushes him away.
That's nine minutes gone in the round. Garak takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Garak trying to control but Kersikov is having none of it. Garak fails to take his opponent's back.
That's ten minutes gone in the round. Kersikov is trying to escape the mount.
Garak controlling the pace for now. It looks like Garak might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. Kersikov tries to lock up and control but Garak gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Garak controlling the pace for now.
That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Garak fails to advance to Kersikov's back. Garak avoids the attempt from Kersikov to control. Garak has hold of Kersikov's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Kersikov manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Kersikov is looking to get to half guard.
That's twelve minutes gone in the round. Garak looking to control but Kersikov is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Garak controlling from the full mount. Kersikov wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back. Score +3 for taking back: Kersikov (0) vs (13) Garak Garak has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.

Kersikov rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
Garak uses his free foot to push down on Kersikov's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Kersikov. Score +3 for passing guard: Kersikov (0) vs (16) Garak Kersikov is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Garak wants to control the pace but Kersikov is squirming around nicely.
That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Garak sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Garak is trying to control here but Kersikov has managed to regain half guard.
Kersikov is doing well to control the position and prevent Garak from advancing to side control. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Garak is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
And that's the end of the fight! Garak wins on points by 16 to 0. A relieved looking Elim Garak thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it. |
