This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the welterweight division. Introducing today's competitors. And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 8 wins and 7 losses; Elim Garak! The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Ian Loll and Trevor Gratis.
The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Ignatowski closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Garak's guard. That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Garak seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Ignatowski makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Ignatowski. In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Garak working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though. Ignatowski controlling the position. Ignatowski looking to control.
Garak slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. It looks like Garak might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Ignatowski holds on and takes a little breather. Ignatowski looking to hit a scissor sweep but Garak is one step ahead there. Garak's corner is telling him to maintain position. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Ignatowski wants to improve his position but instead Garak has moved into half guard.
And that's the end of the fight! Ignatowski takes the fight on points by 12 to 2. A relieved looking The Reverend Jim Ignatowski thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it. |
